The Department of Social and Health Services, within the Child Study & Treatment Center (CSTC), has an opportunity in Lakewood, WA for a Youth Adolescent Counselor 2. This job will be filling multiple positions throughout each of the cottages including the new San Juan Cottage. San Juan is a new cottage that will have 18 beds for forensic (8 beds) and CLIP patients (10 beds). Patients will range from 15-17. In this role, as a counselor, you are a licensed mental health professional who exercises discretion and independent judgment to provide appropriate information, coaching, training, and educating children and adolescents and programming for severely emotionally, behaviorally, and psychologically disturbed children and adolescents in a psychiatric hospital setting serving the mental health and forensic admissions. You will work effectively with children and adolescent patients, their families, other healthcare workers, and community contacts. And also you'll be in charge of scheduling shifts and swapping, dropping, and covering the staff team. Some of what you'll do: * Provide mentorship and situational counseling to adolescent and pre-adolescent children. * Assign and monitor the work of Psychiatric Child Care Counselor's * Train and monitor staff performance and provides feedback to the supervisor * Monitor staff attendance, ensure logs, charting, incident reports, and forms are completed correctly * Facilitate the development of social skills, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, as well as assist the child with activities of daily living * Implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate interventions based upon the current treatment plan * Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic milieu in which patients will receive treatment and implement the cottage program and individualized behavioral plans * Encourage, supervise and participate with patients in a group or individual recreation, social, and therapeutic activities What we are looking for:* * Knowledge of normal and abnormal growth and development, dynamics of interpersonal relationships, mental health concepts, and community resources * Ability to understand and utilize behavioral approaches such as Positive Behavioral Support, Life-Space Crisis Intervention, and Developmental and Dialectical Therapy * Teach the clients to develop skills to change their behavior, cope with life's challenges, and make good decisions * Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing Who should apply? Professionals with one of the following: * A bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology or related field, and one year of Social Service experience * Two years' work experience as a Psychiatric Child Care Counselor 1 Please Note: An Agency Affiliated Counselor license through the Department of Health is needed within sixty days of hire.
