Pierce College Custodian Working Supervisor - Custodian 3 in Lakewood, Washington

Pierce College is hiring for two (2) Custodian 3 positions.

One (1) will work from the Puyallup Campus.

One (1) will work from the Fort Steilacoom Campus.

This is a working supervisory position performing all duties of the custodial positions within the department, cleaning and maintaining assigned work areas to departmental standards, covering for absences, and ensuring projects are completed to meet deadlines. This role actively leads, supports, and engages in Pierce College's goals to create and maintain a workplace that promotes and respects accessibility, equity, inclusion, and diversity.* * Reporting to the Program Manager for Custodial Services, this position requires regular and consistent attendance.

The Custodian 3 will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Lead, direct, instruct, and train assigned personnel in routine custodial and housekeeping duties. 
  • Perform routine inspection of all assigned areas and evaluate employees' total work against established standards, ensuring training needs are met and counseling on job performance.
  • Determine staffing needs, schedule and assign work, inspect and review assigned areas, and ensure departmental cleanliness standards are met.
  • Respond to and document actions taken on Directline (Megamation) work requests.
  • Involved in interviewing personnel being considered for employment and making recommendations to supervisors.
  • Perform assigned duties consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and goals of the institution, community, and technical college system; stay abreast of trends and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Maintain tools, work areas, and assigned custodial closets in a clean, orderly, and well-organized fashion. 
  • Clean and sanitize college facilities, including indoor and outdoor public access, restrooms, toilets, shower rooms, and fixtures per established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply finish to floors; use and maintain high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean/shampoo carpets.
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, such as vacuums, brooms, auto-scrubbers, swing buffers, high-speed burnishers, pressure washers, a Tucker-pole window washing system, and ladders, for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
  • Follow safety compliance requirements for the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; prepare work orders for repair and/or maintenance; and maintain written custodial logs.
  • Maintain the security of assigned areas and report hazards and security violations immediately.
  • Set up and take down equipment, such as whiteboards and easels, and furnishings, such as folding chairs and tables, needed for classes and events. 
  • Identify, report, and take corrective action to resolve custodial maintenance problems.
