Herron Island is a small, nonprofit community in South Puget Sound, accessible by ferry from the Key Peninsula, about 45 minutes from Tacoma, WA. It's governed by HOA bylaws and services include well water management and ferry operations. Our community is comprised of just under 400 properties, and we think it's heaven on earth.
The HMC Management is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to oversee our daily operations and drive forward-thinking initiatives that will enhance the services provided to Herron Island members. This is a unique opportunity to lead change, modernize operations, and collaborate with the Board of Directors, subject matter experts, and a supportive community of volunteers to implement strategic plans, streamline systems, and ensure financial viability. *Job Summary *As the Island Manager, you will plan, direct, and coordinate activities to ensure efficient operations, compliance with regulatory requirements, and budgetary adherence. You will provide both strategic and hands-on leadership to help HMC evolve, improve service quality, and achieve organizational goals. You'll also play a key role in the development and implementation of strategic priorities, collaborating closely with the HMC Board and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, including ferry services, membership billing, and member-related services, while ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the HMC Board to define short and long-term priorities, driving initiatives that align with our mission and ensure long-term financial success.
- People Management: Foster a positive, inclusive work environment that supports staff development, retention, and growth, while ensuring a high-performance culture.
- Cost Management: Develop and implement efficient systems that improve service delivery, reduce costs, and optimize resource allocation.
- Community Engagement: Serve as the key liaison between HMC, Herron Island members, and external stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and strong community relationships.
- Legal and Compliance Oversight: Ensure HMC operations comply with all applicable laws and regulations, acting as the primary contact for legal matters and regulatory agencies.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a related field (required); Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of city, operations management and/or public administration experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
