BASIC PURPOSE

Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Special Events Technician will assist the Event Staff in providing technical support to performers & presentations at Huntamer Park and other parks as scheduled for summer entertainment series including concerts & shows as well as movies.

This temporary position will work between 8-20 hours per week from June 24 – August 23, with opportunity for working at special events through the year on evenings and weekends.

The Parks, Culture & Recreation Department serves the community by providing health, inspiration, and recreation opportunities through quality programming, facilities, and community events. In addition, the department furthers the preservation and enhancement of the environment through planned parks, open spaces and natural habitat areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

These duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Technical support as it relates to sound systems, projectors, audiovisual, and production equipment.

  • Set up and tear down of audio equipment, speakers, cables, mixing board, mics, etc.

  • Work with performers for sound check, manage microphone & instrument levels, as well as handling performer cues and communication.

  • Maintain inventories of supplies and equipment in an orderly fashion.

  • Ensure a safe environment in the park for audiences, performers and staff.

  • Move heavy equipment and supplies as necessary.

  • Assist in proper preparation of all areas of performer and audience use.

  • Assist with maintenance and operation of equipment and ensure safe and proper use; protect city’s equipment and supplies against pilferage, loss, theft, weather, or abuse.

  • Comply with the City of Lacey safety standards and procedures.

  • Provide and maintain high standards of professionalism and excellent customer service to all program participants and program visitors.

  • Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors and the public.

  • Maintain a positive attitude when given feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 16 years old.

  • Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Experience in sound reinforcement.

  • Technical experience with professional projection equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S)

  • Must pass a thorough background investigation.

  • Must have a current CPR/First Aid certification or able to get one once hired.

  • Must be able to provide own transportation to and from job.

  • Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Sound reinforcement for music and speaking

  • Operating professional projecting equipment

  • Production sound systems

  • Greeting the public and explaining all program information readily and thoroughly.

Temporary/seasonal positions are not eligible for health insurance, other insurances, holidays, vacation, and/or other paid leave benefits provided to regular full-time positions; however, they are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. The City will comply with RCW 49.46.210 and WAC's 296-128-600 through 296-128-700 in providing paid sick leave to all covered employees (non-exempt).

Social Security and Federal withholding taxes will be deducted from wages.

Temporary/seasonal positions are eligible for membership and will participate in the Department of Retirement Systems.
