Our Administrative Services Program is looking to fill a Project Manager (Construction Project Coordinator 3) position. This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.

The Project Manager *position is*responsible for providing project management for multiple construction and renovation projects of state agency-owned and leased facilities statewide. The position coordinates the planning, scheduling, and cost controls of building maintenance, renovation and construction projects. We are looking for applicants with effective communication skills and a positive attitude. Duties

The Administrative Services Program's mission is to provide quality customer service and asset management to meet the agency's current and future needs. We manage the agency's financial resources and support agency planning so that environmental goals and strategic priorities are met.

Some of the key work activities of the Project Manager position include:

  • Manages construction, renovation and maintenance projects, statewide, for the agency.
  • Directs the work of consultants and assigned project support staff, monitoring the work of contractors for assigned facilities projects.
  • Prepares analysis of construction cost and prepares cost estimates based on facilities planning, conceptual studies, and bid comparison of projects for design, renovation and/or construction.

Interesting aspects of the position: Maintaining project schedules, diagnosing building system malfunctions, maintaining professional work relationships with agency staff and contractors.

Challenging aspects of the position: Facility problems often mean working with frustrated building occupants and for agency-leased properties, the solutions typically have to come from the property ownership. This can sometimes translate to longer timelines. Communication skills and determination are important attributes for success.

Culture of the team: The Facility Section for Ecology is comprised of dedicated specialized employees, consultants, and contractors who operate in a cohesive team. Their fundamental task is to maintain safe and effective facilities to house employees and equipment necessary to perform the business functions of the agency. It is vitally important the individual who is selected for the position to be an active cooperative member of the team and an effective leader.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree or higher involving major study in architecture, engineering, construction management, business administration, strategic planning, or closely allied field ANDfour (4) years of progressive, relevant, professional experience in real property construction as a cost estimator involving the preparation of cost estimates for major real property development.

AND

Ability to: build, lead and sustain effective project teams in a dynamic diverse environment. The ability to effectively communicate, coordinate and partner with a variety of individuals internal and external to Ecology. Knowledge of: site development and building construction, including the ability to read drawings and specifications. Knowledge of established project management approach to project initiation, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication and risk management. Knowledge of: real estate acquisition and disposal, property leases, property law, and lease negotiations. Ability to: make timely and responsive decisions, taking appropriate calculated risks, and a commitment to acting in the public interest with high ethical standards of conduct, integrity and honesty.

Note:Additional qualifying experience may be substituted year for year for required education.

Desired Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in architecture, engineering, construction management, business or public administration, construction management, strategic planning, or closely allied field ANDsix (6) years of experience in real property development and construction involving the preparation of cost estimates for major real property development.
