The Spill Prevention, Preparedness, and Response Program *within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill an *Oil Spill Preparedness Planner (Environmental Planner 3) position. This position can be located in either of the following offices:

  • Headquarters Office in* *Lacey, WA.{rel="nofollow"}
  • Northwest Region Office (NWRO) *in *Shoreline, WA{rel="nofollow"}. 

Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

Please Note: If the final location of this position is determined to be in our Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA{rel="nofollow"}, there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to its location in King County. In this instance the salary range will be $5,776 - $7,770 per month.  

In this role, you will work to protect Washington from the damages of oil spills through preparedness planning. As an Oil Spill Preparedness Planner, you will review industry contingency plans to ensure the plan's effectiveness in the event of a spill and consistency with Washington's rigorous planning standards. You will be responsible for developing geographic response plans that identify, prioritize, and protect environmental, cultural, and economic resources at risk from an oil spill. Collaboration with community groups, Tribes, state and federal agencies, and industry will be vitally important as you lead planning efforts to ensure Washington state is prepared in the event of an oil spill. Your work in this role will provide opportunities to travel across the state, including along the Snake, Spokane, and Columbia Rivers, throughout the greater Puget Sound region, and along the Washington coast.

*Telework options for this position: *This position will have flexibility of a hybrid schedule, empowering work from home and office, providing less time in traffic and shrinking your carbon footprint. This position will be eligible for up to a 90% telework schedule with the option to work in the office more frequently if you prefer.
