The Solid Waste Management Program *within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill an *Environmental Justice Coordinator (Environmental Planner 4) position. This position can be located in any of the following Ecology offices:

  • Headquarters Office in* *Lacey, WA.{rel="nofollow"}
  • Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA{rel="nofollow"}.
  • Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA{rel="nofollow"}.
  • Northwest Region Office (NWRO) *in *Shoreline, WA{rel="nofollow"}.

Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Please Note: If the final location of this position is determined to be in our Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA{rel="nofollow"}, there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to its location in King County. In this instance the salary range will be $6,380 - $8,578 per month.   Are you passionate about advancing environmental justice throughout the state and setting goals to address the challenges faced by overburdened and underrepresented communities? Do you enjoy planning and collaborating with diverse workgroups? Join us as an Environmental Justice Coordinator for the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Program, where you will plan, analyze, and set the direction and goals for impactful environmental justice initiatives and activities. You will support the SWM program in ensuring equitable service delivery and completing environmental justice assessments and related protocols for program rulemaking and other activities. You will enhance program expertise in environmental justice to expand staff understanding of how to best carry out environmental justice related tasks. Additionally, you will adapt and integrate Washington's environmental justice law known as the HEAL Act (Healthy Environmental for All Act - Chapter 70A.02 RCW{target="_blank" rel="noopener"}) into SWM program protocols and practices.  Agency Mission: *Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance the environment for current and future generations.  * * * *Program Mission: *The mission of the Solid Waste Management program is to reduce wastes through prevention and reuse, keep toxics out of the environment, and safely manage what remains. 

Please Note: This is a temporary position that will last for one year. The position has a probability of being converted to a permanent position.
