The Department of Ecology is hiring a *Lead Software Engineer (IT Application Development - Senior/Specialist) *within the Climate Pollution Reduction Program.

 

Location:

  • Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA{target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"}.
  • Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

     

Schedule:

  • This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options.
  • A minimum of one day per week is required in the office. 
  • Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change.

Duties

 

If you are a solutions-oriented, experienced IT professional, here is your opportunity to support Washington State's bold new climate protection work. The Climate Pollution Reduction Program's IT section works on highly visible projects to develop and maintain critical systems that will further climate work in Washington. These systems are relied upon by Ecology staff and management, legislators, partner agencies and industry users, and we have an obligation to ensure we accurately identify, analyze, and reflect the state of greenhouse gas pollution in Washington State. As a Lead Software Engineer for the new Climate Pollution Reduction Program, you and your fellow IT professionals will be on the cutting edge of helping to reduce greenhouse gases and protect our climate, and support environmental work that will benefit Washington's inhabitants for decades to come.  

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and implement applications and the technical architecture for all CPRP environmental information management systems.

  • Develop and implement data management and data migration strategies.

  • Evaluate new software development products and programming languages, and make recommendations to ensure we are keeping pace with industry best practices.

  • Using your extensive knowledge of information technology, independently, code, test, and implement highly-complex application architecture, custom components and web services, and web services; write re-usable code.

  • Conduct code reviews of other software engineers' projects to ensure system integration.

  • Assist the IT Business Analyst to gather end-user requirements and collaborate with project teams to design applications to meet business needs.

  • Advise and mentor other software development staff in the areas of application architecture, database design, and programming to further staff professional development and assure consistent, maintainable applications.
