Job Summary

Responsible for clerical and reception functions on assigned units which includes close coordination with unit staff, patients and family members, other healthcare professionals and departments.

Assists the work team and provides “oversight” of work team on behalf of supervisor. Responsible for clerical and reception functions on assigned units including close coordination with unit staff, patients and family members, other healthcare professionals and departments. A lead primarily performs the same work as others in the classification; in addition is directly accountable for monitoring and reviewing work assignments of other employees, checking work for accuracy, assisting in making daily work assignments, assisting with developing work schedules, or giving advice and work instructions to other employees. Fulfills all of the job functions and responsibilities of the Health Unit Coordinator.

Lead Accountabilities:

•Orients and trains new employees through demonstration of equipment and work methods.

•Explains tasks to workers. Instructs or guides employees on work processes.

•Coordinates and expedites the work of the team.

•Assists workers in performing tasks.

•Inspects work for completion and accuracy. Reports results to supervisor.

•Reports variance from performance and behavioral standards to supervisor.

•Conducts safety inspections.

•May provide peer input for interview and hiring to supervisor.

•Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

License, Certification, Education or Experience:

REQUIRED for the position:

•High School graduation or equivalent

•Must possess oral and written skills to efficiently communicate and process information regarding patients.

•Completion of a medical terminology course and/or a Health Unit Coordinator course.

DESIRED for the position:

•1 year of related experience in a similar setting
