Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe Victims Services Advocate and Outreach Specialist in Kingston, Washington

Job Summary: The Victim Services Advocate and Outreach Specialist enhances the quality of life of the Tribe's members through the culturally appropriate delivery of coordinated for victims of crime, DV, sexual assault stalking and dating violence. This team operates within a strong team environment under the standards of the Victim Services Program Manager. This position is dependent on grant funding.

[Duties:]{.underline}

  • Receives victims of crime reports from police, staff, and community. Provides advocacy services to victims of crime including victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking.
  • Makes referrals to Tribal services and other services including creating options for safe shelter.
  • Provides legal advocacy and medical advocacy, referrals to counseling services and assists in formulating safety plans.
  • Client transportation as necessary.
  • Attends court with victims and works with Tribal Prosecutor and judge as requested and needed to ensure victim safety, and support perpetrator accountability.
  • Maintain regular contacts of a positive nature with clients, home visits if necessary, and help clients eliminate barriers so they can be successful on their own.
  • Maintain regular contacts of a positive nature with staff, community members, Tribal Council, and other agencies to accomplish program objectives of enhanced services to victims of crime.
  • The program's community outreach efforts will include information booths, classes and events intended to increase awareness of domestic violence, sexual assault, Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Persons (MMIWP) events include candlelight vigils, community marches, education programming for adults, elders and youth.
  • MMIWP Ad Hoc committee participation.
  • This position is eligible for situational remote work as needed. The schedule must be discussed with and approved by supervisor and director and may be subject to change depending on role and department need.

[Education and Certifications:]{.underline}

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred, in Human Services or Social Work
  • Associates Degree and a specialized training course specific to the position
  • Driver's License Required

[Experience:]{.underline}

  • Number of years: Five (5) years in victim services providing direct services
  • Familiarity with Tribal reservation communities

[Physical Requirements:]{.underline}

  • Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Normal audio and visual acuity
