Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe Policy Coordinator in Kingston, Washington

The Policy Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring consistent implementation of Tribal Council directives and distribution of resources by identifying policy needs and managing the development, approval, communication, and storage of tribal policies. The Policy Coordinator will develop and maintain a policy priority list in collaboration with Executive and Administrative staff based on Tribal Council direction. This work will be achieved by conducting analytical research and data analysis to make informed policy recommendations and draft policies for Tribal Council approval. The Policy Coordinator reports directly to the Administrative Director and is a non-supervisory position.

 

Duties Include:

 

Policy Development:

  • Conduct research to determine policy needs, goals, and effectiveness.
  • Draft new policies and propose suggestions for improving the effectiveness of existing policies.
  • Learn and understand applicable laws, rules and guidelines that apply to the Tribe and ensure compliance of tribal policy with those.
  • Research, create, and maintain industry best practice content for use in quality process documentation. 

     

Policy Management:

  • Follow the established policy format and approval process and make suggestions for improvements as needed.
  • Maintain an electronic file storage system and system for access.
  • Maintain legislative history of all policies in a consistent and uniform manner.

     

Administrative and Policy Coordination

  • Develop a policy priority list and an annual Policy Plan.
  • Ensure the process for policy approval is followed.
  • Communicate with relevant groups after a policy is approved.
  • Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, mutual respect and communication.

     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required or plan to obtain one within 3 years.
  • 2 years of experience in writing. 
  • 3 tears experience in managing large projects.
  • Must have high proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent typing skills.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-starting and adhere to strict timelines while managing multiple tasks.
  • Must be highly dependable, friendly, professional, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Washington State Driver's license required.

     

Travel Requirements:

  • Local, statewide and out of state travel is required.

     

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Normal audio and visual acuity
