Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe NRE Deputy Chief in Kingston, Washington

Job Summary: The Natural Resources Enforcement Deputy Chief is responsible for oversight and supervision of all aspects of the department to insure treaty fishing, hunting and gathering harvests are lawfully and safely conducted. Maintains peace and order and enforces all applicable tribal laws and ordinances, primarily the Fishing and Hunting Codes. Issues citations to violators, conducts applicable investigations, makes arrests and provides testimony in court as needed.

 

[Duties Include:]{.underline}

  • Authority: Oversees and supervises all aspects of the Natural Resources Department Enforcement Program under the guidance and oversight of the department Director. Enforces all applicable laws and ordinances specified in the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribal Code, especially the Fishing Code and Hunting Code.
  • Supervision: Supervises all department personnel to include an NRE Sergeant and four officers.  Maintains a positive and professional work environment and ensures the demands of the community are being met.
  • Analysis: Receives information from other Tribal, State or Federal Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers, Director of Natural Resources, Fisheries Committee, Hunting Committee, other Fish and Game Officers, Police Officers, Informants, Community Members, Tribal Court Staff, and other agencies. Evaluates information and investigates reported violations, takes appropriate action to prevent violations, apprehend violators, or other actions as needed.
  • Equipment: Operates enforcement vehicles and patrol boats in all weather conditions, day or night. Uses pagers, radios, cell phones, and other communication related equipment. Uses firearms as authorized by the department and participates in firearm practice, qualifications and certifications described in the department policy manual. Uses equipment authorized by the department for restraint of violators either electronic or chemical, prepares written reports and documents required using a computer, and operates various types of office equipment. Certified with the use of SCUBA equipment when necessary and participates in diving operations or training to conduct underwater surveys, proficiency training and to maintain qualifications and certifications as diver. Safeguards department equipment from damage or theft.

Manages crises by following established procedures and addresses unanticipated developments by accessing appropriate resources.
