Actalent Supplier QA Specialist in Kent, Washington

Description:

We are seeking a qualified individual with a BS from a related science program such as Food & Nutrition Science, Microbiology, Public Health, Biochemistry, or Environmental Health, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a supplier quality assurance role. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

Evaluation and approval of suppliers, ingredients, and packaging:

• Recommend approval or rejection of potential new suppliers, ingredients, or packaging based on thorough assessments of quality and food safety systems against GFSI standards and SQF requirements.

• Perform and document risk and hazard analyses for ingredients, packaging, and suppliers.

• Manage the supplier scorecard program to monitor and improve supplier performance.

• Effectively communicate approval or rejection decisions to suppliers.

Quality Management:

• Manage corrective and preventative actions for supplier quality-related issues, non-conformances, and food safety/quality system deficiencies.

• Participate as a member of the safety committee and lead initiatives involving quality policies, procedures, and requirements for suppliers.

• Interpret and effectively communicate food safety and quality compliance requirements.

• Support regulatory and third-party food safety audits related to supplier and ingredient approval requirements.

• Develop and implement best practices while driving continuous improvement with suppliers as needed.

Compliance and Documentation:

• Travel to suppliers to assess and document their compliance with regulations and GFSI standards.

• Maintain a thorough understanding of Quality Management Systems, Food Safety, and local, state, and federal regulations, including USDA and FDA requirements.

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of FSMA, GMP, HACCP, IPM, EMP, analytical testing, food microbiology, allergen handling, etc.

• Create and review high-level technical specifications and documents that can withstand scrutiny by regulatory agencies.

Technical Skills:

• Exhibit excellent computer skills, particularly in MS Office.

• Leverage Excel to create data input forms, design and utilize pivot tables, and build dynamic dashboards to quickly communicate performance trends for quality KPI metrics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

-Minimum 3 years of experience a supplier quality assurance role.

-Thorough understanding of quality and food safety systems: The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable about quality and food safety systems, including compliance with GFSI standards and SQF requirements.

-Experience managing supplier performance: Ability to manage the supplier scorecard program, monitor supplier performance, and drive improvements.

-Effective communication skills: Candidates should be able to clearly communicate approval or rejection decisions to suppliers.

-Knowledge of corrective and preventative actions: Familiarity with addressing supplier quality-related issues, non-conformances, and food safety/quality system deficiencies.

-Regulatory compliance expertise: Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., FSMA, GMP, HACCP, IPM, EMP) and ability to interpret and communicate food safety and quality compliance requirements.

-Proficiency in MS Office: particularly Excel for creating data input forms, pivot tables, and dynamic dashboards related to quality KPI metrics.
