Amazon Power Engineer, Integrated Rack Power Team Sustaining Engineering in Kent, Washington

Description

You will be a power electronics subject matter expert in an engineering team responsible for both new product development as well as product sustaining and support. You will help grow the capabilities in our power test lab by creating/running new tests, innovating new test processes, and automating the execution of these tests. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas.

Key job responsibilities

As a member of the Rack Power Engineering team, you will be responsible for developing and testing innovative power solutions for Amazon's next-generation data center hardware. You will act as a power electronics subject matter expert, applying new technologies to enable large-scale server deployments and deliver a world-class customer experience.

A critical part of your role will be providing leadership in issue resolution for Amazon's mission-critical Rack Power products deployed globally. This will involve early detection and in-depth technical investigation of issues through hands-on lab testing and troubleshooting. Your goal will be to keep internal customers satisfied with the reliability and fast, cost-effective resolution of Rack Power problems.

You will also play a key role in failure analysis and root cause identification, leveraging Rack Power telemetry and fault data to drive hardware and firmware redesign, modification, and validation. This work will be done in close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external vendor partners.

Ultimately, your efforts will drive efficiency, cost savings, and improved performance and reliability for Amazon's websites and services, contributing to the company's broader sustainability goals.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

• 5+ years of electrical engineering experience specifically in power electronics

• 5+ years of experience designing, testing, and debugging power electronics such as AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, switching power supplies, driver circuits, and battery systems

• HW Lab experience: setting up prototypes, developing tests and running tests

• Experience developing tests and automating their execution with one or more programming/scripting languages.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or similar

• Deep understanding of different power electronics circuit topologies

• Experience designing or testing products for safety, compliance, and regulatory standards

• Experience in working with overseas CM/OEM/ODM vendors in product development

• Experience with technologies such as: power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking…

• Product validation and issue root cause experience

• Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross functional groups including mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, test, reliability, and failure analysis.

• Experience with power, performance and cost optimization

• Experience with data center power distribution to server racks and within server racks.

• Experienced in gathering requirements and developing server specifications

• Demonstrated ability to engage technology developers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative server designs

• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
