Job Description:
As our Electircal Engineer reporting to the Director of System Software & Controls, you are responsible for design, implementation, and support of our controls systems from initial customer requirements gathering to the released products’ sustaining engineering support.
The Electrical Engineer serves three primary roles:
Serve as a member of the engineering team to evaluate, develop and release technical solutions to meet business needs
Lead by example – drive product development and/or research-based projects directly, and
Provide guidance and aid in mentorship to the electrical/controls engineering team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of industrial control subsystems for SHAPE products including the large installed base of legacy systems/pumps and new products in development
Collaborate with stakeholders and program management to define strategic direction and prioritize controls design enhancements and features
Review high level strategic requirements and collaborate with product managers, business development team members, and members of quality organization to define tasks, acceptance criteria, electrical designs, and controls enhancements
Leads by example; owns controls-based product development projects and manages through New Product Development processes
Coordinates system validation testing in conjunction with software development team leaders
Prepare controls design and architecture approach for custom engineered business proposal efforts
Work with Designers to generate electrical drawing packages (schematic + assembly) SolidWorks', Electrical ECAD design software
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated track record of selecting and developing optimized controls hardware/software to realize product direction provided by the Product Manager.

Strong understanding of how engineering efforts impact the overall business; grasps assignment of engineering projects based on business needs
Accustomed to and comfortable with describing and defending concepts, component selection and application architectures taking into account areas such as required sustaining effort, customer benefits, and predicted future needs.
Work experience where concepts/features were individually conceived, proven, documented, deployed and supported.
Practical design and implementation experience in any combination of the following with an emphasis on motion control:
Motion control design and configuration, including servo motor/drive selection and tuning
Industrial control system design
Schematic design
Component selection
Panel layout
PLC Programming
DeltaTau PMAC or Power PMAC
Omron Sysmac Studio
Siemens TIA Portal
IEC 61131-3
c, c++ programming experience
Modern digital control and real-time network protocols (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet IP, Ethernet Powerlink, Sercos III etc.)
Experience with standard software design processes and version control tools
Azure DevOps (preferred)
(GIT, Subversion
High level of analytical ability and application of problem solving tool set to complex engineering requirements
Demonstrated ability to work on live machines for development, testing and validation of control system software
Strong oral and written communication skills
Product compliance knowledge:
National Electric Code (including NFPA 79)
European CE directives and standards for industrial machinery

Education/Experience and/or Training:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Physics or Mathematics with minimum of 5 years relevant stand-alone industrial machine controls design work experience; MS level degree or 7 years relevant industrial control design experience preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in any of the following – industrial controls design and implementation, CNC motion controls design, robotics motion controls design, automation control system design.
Travel:
- Approximately 15% travel will be required for customer visits, trade shows and worldwide factory meetings.
