Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Current approvals include the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, (NADCAP), Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company, Boeing Defense and Space, Boeing/Philadelphia, Boeing Long Beach, Grumman, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Goodrich, Bombardier, Cessna and Sikorsky among much else.
Founded in 1976, Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012, and became part of the Aerostructures Division. As a defense contractor Protective Coatings Inc. is registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp and is fully compliant with all relevant facets of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
Level 2 candidates will be expected to successfully apply all common water and solvent reducible corrosion resistant epoxy primers on a diversity of substrates and intermediate product configurations, (geometries) using conventional HVLP equipment in pressure, siphon and gravity fed variants. Candidates for these positions shall be fully familiar with proper equipment setup including production air and pot pressures, fluid/air mixtures and fan adjustments as well as proper gun angles distance and speed as they relate to specific part geometries and unique coating characteristics. Additionally, these individuals should have a basic understanding of the cause and effect of common paint defects and the necessary adjustments for elimination of noted defects. These operators will be expected to maintain terminal equipment in good working order throughout the production cycle. Level 2 candidates will be expected to control wet/dry film coating thicknesses IAW noted prescribed requirements. These individuals should be qualified in associated support functions such as racking, turning and sanding operations as well as equipment maintenance and paint mixing operations. As a condition of assignment, level 2 painter candidates may be expected to process product controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and/or Export Administration Regulations. As such these candidates may be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, Legal Permanent Residence or protected status as a Non-Citizen National of the U.S.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviewing and assimilating work instructions specific to paint type, dimensional tolerance and thickness considerations.
Loading, adjustment, basic troubleshooting and light maintenance of conventional HVLP coating equipment in remote pressure, siphon and gravity fed variants.
Successful application of all common organic primer finishes to a variety of substrates and simple to intermediate part configurations, (geometries) and the ability to maintain specified dry film thickness requirements.
Understanding and maintaining best safety practices in accordance with prescribed directives.
Excellent hand/eye coordination, practical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent vision whether or not corrected including normal color vision.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
Ability to utilize necessary safety equipment such as grade D air hoods/masks, Tyvek suits, neoprene gloves and safety eyewear.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
Good working knowledge of conventional HVLP application equipment in pressure, gravity and siphon fed variants including setup, adjustments and basic troubleshooting.
The ability to successfully apply common epoxy primers on all simple to intermediate product geometries within specified parameters for dry film thickness.
An understanding of product conservation techniques which maximize coatings and minimize waste.
Experience relative to (1) year minimum specific to the application of all common aerospace primers on a variety of substrates and intermediate product configurations, (geometries).
NESHAP Operator Certification Training IAW 40 CFR Part 63 Subpart HHHHHH. PCI will provide for relevant training/testing as necessary to ensure compliance).
