ABOUT THE JOB

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Project Manager, the carpenter will be responsible for:

  • Designing, constructing, remodeling, retrofitting, painting, and repairing interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete, or brick.
  • Designing, constructing, retrofitting, painting, and repairing cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door frames, and window frames.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, adjusting, calibrating, and servicing equipment used for job tasks.
  • Responding to routine and emergency repair calls.
  • Procuring materials as needed for projects.
  • Removing and reinstalling toilets, sinks, bathtubs, large appliances, hardware, and other fixtures.
  • Documenting work activities daily and submitting weekly reports, while also providing daily status updates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to:

    • Design, build, install, and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings, and cabinetry.
    • Operate, maintain, and calibrate hand and power carpentry tools.
    • Read and interpret plans and blueprints.
    • Recognize and select appropriate types and grades of lumber.
    • Create rough sketches and estimates for project cost, time, and materials.
    • Perform physically demanding tasks.
    • Train and supervise laborers.
    • Follow and deliver both oral and written instructions.
    • Maintain cooperative and professional working relationships.
    • Show respect and sensitivity toward diverse populations.
  • In-depth knowledge of:

    • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
    • Building and safety code requirements.
    • Maintenance practices for tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent verbal communication abilities.
