Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

This job is responsible for transporting patient and equipment between departments/locations. Provides with basic aspects of patient care, patient mobility and maintenance of equipment under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a defined care team. Contributes to the delivery of patient focused care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with cleaning of equipment and maintenance of department; may exchange oxygen tanks and/or attach IV’s to wheelchairs or gurneys as necessary.

  • Escorts patient at the time of discharge from their room to personal transportation.

  • Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards and infection prevention.

  • Performs basic life support, gives assistance to medical staff during emergencies, and may respond to hospitals codes.

  • Performs basic patient care activities, based on skill, ability and limitations of scope of practice, as directed by management and/or nursing staff.

  • If assigned , checks, cleans and disinfects mobile non-critical medical equipment (e.g. IV pumps/poles, feeding pumps, cardiac monitoring equipment, cabinets, etc.) in accordance with established standards/procedures and manufacturer’s instructions; assures that disinfectant is applied with sufficient contact time.

  • Transports patients to and from nursing units and ancillary departments in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort; returns all equipment after transport (ie. wheelchair, stretcher); informs floors when patient is being transported; provides feedback to healthcare staff on occurrences during period of transport.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program (or military medical specialty training). Six months related work experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant by the Washington State Nursing Commission.

  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification.

Pay Range

$19.73 - $28.48 /hour
