The City of Gig Harbor is seeking an Associate Engineerwithin the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The ideal candidate will have training and professional experience in the Civil engineering and/or Municipal engineering fields. This position is responsible for a broad range of Public Works engineering services including private development project review and permitting, and design and contract administration of City Capital Improvements projects for the City’s streets, stormwater, water, sanitary sewer, and park systems. Candidates will know how to collaborate well with their team, other departments, and community members, possess excellent communication skills, and have a positive attitude. We are looking for an individual who models the way, a team player focused on serving our community, accustomed to follow-through, following up and helping others.SummaryThis position is responsible for a broad range of Public Works engineering services, including grant and permit applications, utility and agency coordination, design and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates, contract administration, construction support, program development and implementation, interagency coordination, permitting, investigation and enforcement, development review, traffic engineering, and report preparation. The employee is:Is under the direct supervision of the City Engineer.Works as part of a team.Adheres to City of Gig Harbor guidelines, policies, procedures, practices, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws.Regularly interacts with and establishes relationships with the public, City officials, City employees, contractors, and other government agencies.Work is performed with limited supervision. The incumbent acts with relative independence and latitude for exercising judgment, taking initiative, and retaining confidentiality within the scope of oral and written instructions, City of Gig Harbor’s guidelines, policies, procedures, practices, applicable local, state, and federal laws, and professional engineering practicesThe incumbent must perform complex tasks to provide engineering support for public works projects and programs and development review to ensure technical congruence and compliance with current codes and criteria.The incumbent must possess demonstrated skill in collaboration, communication, public relations, diplomacy, balancing confidentiality and transparency, organization, risk assessment, decision-making, problem-solving, follow-through, and ability to identify and suggest improvement opportunities.Work is reviewed for quality, timeliness, and successful achievement of projects and duties in alignment with the job. Work is also reviewed for ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and ability to work as a team member with City staff, elected officials, and the public.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAny of the following duties may be performed.
