Caterpillar Power Solutions Northwest (PSNW) is focused on developing heavy-duty, spark ignited engines. PSNW works to develop new technologies and next generation engines with the goals of reducing the products carbon footprint, increasing its performance, and lowering emissions. At the PSNW test facility outside of Bellingham, Washington engineers specialize in using single cylinder engine testing combined with detailed analysis, 1D engine models, and 3D CFD simulation tools to provide optimized combustion system solutions for Caterpillars Large Power Systems Division.

Role Definition

This position will be responsible for planning and implementing EHS best practices and programs at the PSNW facility working with the local engineering management team and EHS coordinators from central Caterpillar functional areas, see details below. Since this is a smaller facility, the position will also help with local administration tasks to support the facility operations. Some examples are billing, parts procurement, facility stocking, shipping, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies common safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organizations operations and works with Regional or Divisional EHS to establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.

  • Prepares or reviews EHS training materials for the facility.

  • Defines standard work procedures for various common tasks around the facility

  • Complete EHS FMEAs for standard work

  • Investigates and establishes standards for protective equipment.

  • Performs self-assessments of safety/health/environmental programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.

  • Generating and/or reviewing of reports for environmental (EPA) and safety (TN Factory rules).

  • Ensures and acts as custodian of EHS related compliance.

  • Conduct employee safety and environmental training programs and assist with emergency response training drills.

  • Develop back to work processes

  • Ensure required safety equipment is on-site

  • Schedule routine safety reviews and inspections (fire extinguishers, lifting devices, alarm systems, forklift operator training, etc.)

  • Proactively Identify problem areas by data analysis and site inspections.

  • Act as the lead for implementing any new security standards and responding to calls/alarms

  • Logs and reports all safety instances that occur at the facility

Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline.

Culture/Location Description: The PSNW facility consists of a small collaborative team that is on the technical forefront of heavy-duty spark ignited engine development. Emphasis is placed on staying abreast of the latest research and development in the field of internal combustion engines to deliver world class next generation products. When the workday is done there are a multitude of activities waiting for the outdoor enthusiast – hiking, camping, mountaineering, mountain biking, kayaking, or boating in the San Juan Islands are just to name a few. In addition to the array of mountain town activities, Bellingham also has its share of cultural offerings including shows at the historic Mt. Baker Theater, the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, multiple music venues, a long list of local restaurants, and is home to Western Washington University.

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00
