Ferguson is currently seeking the right individual to fill an immediate need for a Sales Manager - Waterworks covering the Greater Seattle and Tacoma markets for our Waterworks division. We offer competitive compensation and this role is eligible for bonus incentives driven by sales performance.

This is a territory-based role positioned out of our Tacoma. This role offers hybrid flexibility and requires regular, local field-based travel, up to 50%, in the Western Washington area. As a hybrid role, in-office training and an in-office presence for weekly meetings and collaboration will be required. When not traveling, this role offers the flexibility to partially work from home. Travel territory encompasses from Bellingham to Olympia and the greater western Seattle/Tacoma area. An auto-allowance, fuel card, and expense account is provided. To perform the essential duties of this role, the incumbent will need to reside in the local area.

Position Details

  • Direct oversite of 6 Outside Sales Representatives and 5 Estimators

  • Market opportunity of +/- $300M


  • Develop and maintain key customer relationships to ensure desired service goals and performance expectations are consistently reached

  • Develop and maintain key relationships with vendors and suppliers to support present and future strategic business needs

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate a team of Sales Representatives and Estimating professionals

  • Assign, monitor, and set objectives for key accounts with Sales Representatives to generate sales plans for ongoing sales growth

  • Provide leadership and direction for the go-to-market bid strategy and oversee project price proposals

  • Accompany Sales Reps on customer calls

  • Play an active role in the development of current and future Sales Representatives

  • Develop and lead the ongoing communication flow between sales and estimating to ensure there’s a cohesive strategy to meet business needs

  • Supervise market activity, sales trends and provide feedback on product performance

  • Support business and sales initiatives through effective and efficient performance of self and team

  • Adapt to current branch culture by actively participating in branch meetings

  • Solve complex and critical problems to reach successful outcomes

  • Train and evaluate the effective implementation of company software to execute sales and estimating processes

  • Ability to work alongside and across department leaders to achieve business objectives


  • 6+ years of construction related sales experience, required

  • Sales and/or management experience in the Waterworks or Underground Utilities industry, strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of construction project estimating, formal bid process, project management, project quotations, or value engineering, preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language

  • Proven relationship builder with outstanding customer service skills and an energetic, supportive approach to customers

  • Prior management, supervisory, or leadership experience, preferred

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to think in an unexpected way to develop and negotiate innovative solutions

  • General computer proficiency including use of Microsoft applications and navigating multiple software systems, required

  • Prior use of BidTracer, PlanSwift or similar estimating software, a plus

  • Able to work in a strong team environment and have a team centered mentality

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to groups

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the outlined territory, required

  • Strategically minded and able to adapt to changing strategies

  • Highly motivated, creative, and ability to maintain focus and composure in a changing environment
