UnitedHealth Group Regional Ambulatory Surgery Center Director in Everett, Washington

Under minimal supervision, accountable for clinical quality and financial performance of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) across Optum WA, including pre-operating, operating room (OR), post anesthesia care, Endoscopy Lab, and Sterile Processing and ensures compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements. Accountable for developing collaborative relationships with surgeons, employees, and regional partners. Develops regional strategy to ensure safety, minimize risk, achieve high quality, maintain accreditation/licensure and pass audits in all ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Regional ASC Leadership & Clinical Operations:

  • Develops regional department goals and objectives which support system initiatives and drives standardization and best practices across regional ASCs

  • Develops and supports a regional ASC governance structure

  • Develops and builds a cohesive regional ASC leadership team

  • Ensure all regulatory standards and other operational standards are adhered to and documented

  • Ensures all locations and leaders can successfully manage and lead through accreditation and licensure surveys

  • Develops regional standards that ensure an excellent ASC experience for both of our core customers: patients and proceduralists

  • Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates regional performance measures to support continued financial growth

  • Demonstrates solid communication with ASC Medical Directors and ASC leadership

  • Provides support and collaboration between ASC Medical Directors and ASC operations to continuously improve access, service and strategically grow the department

  • Coaches directors, manager and ASC subject matter experts to ensure exemplary communication and service. Develops staff through coaching, cross training, internal/external education opportunities to improve or enhance job skills

  • Conducts regular review of progress toward goals and demonstrates satisfactory progress toward identified goals

  • Develops a strategic workforce plan and provides support to the Directors and Managers of the ASCs to: interview, hire, counsel, educate, motivate, support and discipline employees as needed

  • Strategic Operations & Financial Management:

  • Maximizes operational effectiveness, safety, quality and productivity using a formal process improvement management system, including ASC businessplanning, utilization management, supply chain management budgeting and forecasting of revenues and expenses of areas of responsibility in alignment with the surgical services strategic planningstrategies and goals

  • Maintains active knowledge of trends within specialty and external markets to enhance overall planning effectiveness

  • Consistently meets work deadlines, schedules and provides project management work in a timely manner

  • Quality and Project Management:

  • Demonstrates skills in technical and analysis and evaluation, problem-solving presenting options for resolution and initiating appropriate actions steps

  • Proactively identifies and resolves safety and quality issues using Root Cause Analysis

  • Facilitates annual process improvement value stream mapping including coaching and mentoring of the ASC team on the principles of (Lean) process improvement principles and techniques

  • Provides oversight of ASC related quality and safety programs and adverse or sentinel events

  • All staff members are to promote a positive and productive work environment by acting maturely and responsibly, satisfactorily performing his or her job responsibilities and conducting themselves in a professional, courteous and respectful manner toward fellow employees, physicians and patients

  • Integrates Lean principles, practices and tools to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction

  • Frequently must follow written and oral instructions as well as complete routine tasks independently

  • Completes annual compliance training on HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signs Agreements

  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information following HIPAA guidelines and TEC policies

  • Attends training to meet requirements of the job position and as needed or mandated by TEC policies, Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I and other state/federal regulations

  • Has regular and predictable attendance

Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain Active” WA DOH Registered Nurse Licensure

  • Travel 25% locally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASC and/or tertiary level perioperative experience and 5+ years OR experience

  • 4+ years management experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Knowledge: Extensive business knowledge with comprehensive understanding of organization and functional area(s).Knowledge of fiscal management systems and techniques. Knowledge of management practices including supervision and staff development. Knowledge of governmental regulations for ASCs and reimbursement requirements. Knowledge of national standards for all areas in the ASCs. Knowledge of surgery center computer systems and applications

  • Skills: Proven leadership skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn and apply new technologies and skills.Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates multiple activities and tasks. Skill in negotiation and conflict resolution. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving and decision making. Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, physicians, regulators and patients. Organizational and time management skills to work independently and with groups to achieve Clinic and ASC goals and objectives. Must possess solid communication skills both speaking and writing to communicate clearly and understandably

  • Abilities: Reads, speaks, understands and writes proficiently in English. Works effectively in a team environment.Works with initiative, energy and effectiveness in a fast-paced environment.Ability to communicate and maintain good relationships with clinical personnel, medical staff, administration, ancillary and other departments. Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and coach others through management of complex process improvement opportunities. Ability to analyze and interpret complex data such as monitoring quality control standards. Ability to motivate with reflective listening and learning and respect alternative perspective and points of view

Washington Residents Only: The salary range for Washington residents is $122,100 to $234,700 annually.
