As part of Optum, the Optum Care Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon) market is seeking a full-time Senior Vice President of Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team. The Pacific Northwest market is a new and young market for Optum Care— the role is ideal for someone with a growth and start-up mindset, capable of and interested in development and maturing service lines and operations, while also operating at the strategic level.

Working in multispecialty and integrated care delivery organization, the Senior Vice President, Operations is responsible for the operational performance of clinical areas within the PNW. This leader will plan, direct, monitor, control, evaluate and drive operations for the Pacific Northwest. This means developing and implementing short- and long-term operational goals and plans while ensuring alignment with regional, national and system priorities. Key requirements are the ability to translate initiatives into timely action plans with measurable performance using industry best practices and standard KPIs to lead, direct and drive operational excellence and standard work across the region.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as senior member of leadership for PNW Regional Medical Group/Care Delivery Operation providing strategic direction on operational issues

  • Work effectively as team member in highly matrixed executive environment while promoting team engagement and collaboration across the organization

  • Supervise, direct and develop Primary Care, Medical Sub-Specialty, Surgery, Walk-in Clinic, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Facilities, Ancillary Services and other administrators as delegated by the Market President

  • Accountable for budgets and financial forecasts as well as multi-year business plans for all Optum service lines and locations

  • Primarily responsible for the performance of Optum core services and operational integration of Optum de novo sites

  • Promotes the provision of cost-effective, high-quality health care services for patients

  • In coordination with Optum West region and National, recommends and administers clinic facility improvements including construction, renovation and purchase of equipment

  • Interprets clinic and departmental policies, objectives and operational procedures to department heads; resolves problems related to staffing, utilization of facilities, equipment and supplies

  • Partners with executive team, administrative and clinical leadership to facilitate deployment of Optum strategies and to ensure positive medical group relations regarding operational issues

  • Promotes patient and workplace safety and process improvement models e.g., LEAN.

  • Collaborates with Corporate Compliance to develop and maintain a culture and systems that ensure that Optum meets all legal, regulatory and ethical requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Live in Washington state or Oregon.Travel within the market a minimum of 50% of the time.

  • 10+ years of healthcare management experience, with 5+ years in executive and/or regional operations role

  • 5+ years of Medical Group multispecialty care operations management experience, including ASCs, primary care and specialty care clinics

  • 3+ years of managing P&L over $200M

  • Required experience in multispecialty care organizations, ideally in both FFS and value-based care model

  • Experience in hospital, physician and ancillary contracts under a variety of reimbursement methodologies to include risk-sharing contracts, fee-for-service, case rate and capitation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in healthcare-related field

  • 5+ years of experience in planning and managing at senior leadership strategic and operational levels

  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare provider operating environment/role

  • Experience and comfort in digital and telehealth care delivery operations, both helping to launch and operationalize

Washington Residents Only : The salary range for this role is $188,000 to $357,600 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
