Job Description:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager the Mechanical System-Fluid Power Control Subject Matter Expert provides technical oversight for NPD and sustaining projects for aircraft water and waste systems. The expert assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests/products/equipment. The position requires an ability to interpret, on a broad basis, the principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty. The position is responsible for providing leadership, mentorship, technical consultations, and project guidelines to ensure the successful development and implementation of our products.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contributes to successful program completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination requirements.
• Provides technical leadership to all IPTs as well as to groups of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians.
• Supports project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
• Assists in determining project objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design.
• Reviews and approves design data throughout the technical maturity phases.
• Reviews project-related documentation and designs to ensure its accuracy.
• Initiates and maintains design data throughout the technical maturity phases.
• Generates artifacts, reports, and design reviews to provide objective evidence of compliance with requirements.
• Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
• Participates in NAR (Non Advocate Review) for all programs, including projects from Operations/Supply Chain/QA.
• Provides technical training and development guidance to functional engineers and product focals.
• Represent company with internal and external customer-facing in technical meetings, collaborations, conflicts and resolutions at remote and company sites.
• Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university, with at least ten years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Design knowledge of fluid power handling equipment such as actuated or manual valves, pumping equipment, high-speed blowers or fans, plumbing elements, thin-walled pressure vessels, and fluid/pneumatic seal designs.
• Knowledge base includes, but is not limited to, fluid power control components, high speed blowers or fans, plumbing elements, thin-walled pressure vessels, and fluid/pneumatic seal designs.
• Understanding and working knowledge of detail component design.
• Hands-on experience with assembly and troubleshooting.
• Experience with interpreting and creating equipment specifications, specifying and conducting verification testing, and generating qualification and certification documentation related to ATA Chapter 38 Water and Waste equipment and systems, or similar cabin equipment.
• Proficiency and practical experience in potable water/waste and gray water aerospace design practices.
• Working familiarity with ANSI Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
• Experience with tolerance stack-ups, fits, and clearances.
• Design experience with mechanical components and fastening methods.
• Ability to provide engineered solutions for aircraft lavatory mechanical systems, including detailed design and component selection.
• Experience in reviewing specifications and assessing requirements.
• Ability to identify compliance differences between specified requirements and existing capabilities.
• Experience in developing qualification documents such as substantiation documents, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
• Understanding and working knowledge of RTCA DO-160 qualification.
• Ability to review customer comments on qualification documents, resolve differences, and update documents accordingly.
• Experience in interfacing with customers, systems engineers, and program managers to address design and compliance issues.
• Experience in conducting and participating in tests to validate the robustness and performance of new product designs.
• Ability to interface with suppliers, electrical engineering, system architects, ODM, quality, tooling engineering, and other development groups to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ideal candidate has design experience with all aspects of Chapter 38 products and systems.
• Experience in related hydraulic, fuel, pneumatics, oxygen, cryogenic, marine, space systems.
• Experience in the development and integration of aircraft equipment and electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience utilizing Siemens NX CAD software, Teamcenter PLM, and Altium or equivalent PCB layout tool.
• 3D modeling experience with NX (formerly Unigraphics), CATIA, or equivalent software.
• Experience using simulation tools such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
• Knowledge of electronic discrete and surface mount components.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling of parts and constraint assemblies, including associated detail drawings and layouts.
• Experience with 3D routing of water and air hoses.
• Working knowledge of aerospace standards, materials, processes, and finishes.
• Classical method of stress analysis
• Design of mechanical components, subsystems, complex assemblies, and aircraft system architecture.
• Generate detailed component design and assembly of at least one of the following subject matters: control valves, actuators, compressors or pumps, regulators, pressure gauges, cryogenic and alternative fuel commodities.
• Experience with manufacturing processes, but is not limited to machined elements, forging, casting, injection molding, thermal forming, and sheet metal fabrications.
• Experience with LabVIEW or other data acquisition systems.
• Experience with commercial aircraft monuments or other interior products.
