The OpportunityWSDOT is eager to hire a self-motivated professional to join our project office in Everett, WA as a Materials Tester. This position will support the office by testing and sampling construction materials used on WSDOT projects. The incumbent will ensure accurate testing and sampling using testing equipment and established procedures. This position is vital to ensure testing, sampling, and documentation of construction materials is accomplished efficiently and accurately while aligning with applicable rules and policies. What to ExpectAmong the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Materials Tester will: *Perform a variety of job-site material testing, recording test data and interpreting test results. *Operate a variety of equipment such as a nuclear densometer to perform soil density tests, aggregate tests, and concrete tests. *Review field notes for materials compliance and enter data into a variety of software systems. *Review contractor submittals for contract compliance. *Transmit information and materials to Materials laboratory for approval. *Assist in the preparation of materials documentation for project close-out. *Assist in the inspection of minor phases of construction projects when needed. QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: *Two (2) years of experience performing semi-skilled technical engineering work at as Transportation Technician 2 or equivalent or equivalent. *Must possess a valid Driver's License and ability to legally operate a pickup truck, auto or van. *Strong oral and written communication skills. *Read and interpret engineering specification. *Strong computer skills and including importing photos, compiling reports, and on-line databases. *The ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, walk on uneven terrain, and lift and transport up to 50lbs. *The ability to work at construction sites near high-volume traffic. *The ability to work all scheduled shifts and overtime when necessary. This includes the ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays when assigned. *The ability to work around chemicals in testing of concrete, asphalt and earthwork and in the inspection of striping, painting or other materials. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: *Qualified WAQTC HMA tester.
