Fortive Corporation Engineering Development Program - Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineer in Everett, Washington

Jumpstart your career as a well-rounded engineer by joining Fluke’s Engineering Development Program. In this two-year rotation program, you’ll have the chance to make an impact and get exposure to innovative engineering roles throughout the business, all while being supported by a team of carefully selected mentors and fellow rotation program employees.

Over two years you will rotate through several carefully selected engineering roles to gain knowledge and experience across multiple applications of engineering and gain a broader understanding of the Fluke business. There will be a minimum of two rotations in a core area of engineering as well as potential additional rotations. As a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering graduate your two core rotations will be in mechanical design engineering and manufacturing engineering. More details on these rotations are below.

Once you successfully complete the rotation program, you can expect to be placed in an Operations Engineering or Design Engineering role. We will take into account your preferences, capabilities, and where we believe you will be successful for your first role outside of the rotation program. Our goal through this program is to help you build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to have a successful career within Fluke and/or Fortive.

Mechanical Engineer (core rotation):

As a CSE Mechanical Engineer you will support the development of handheld products from concept through launch. You will interact with groups including Project Management, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, Business units, Mechanical Development, Product Compliance and Project Coordination. You will be expected to complete design reviews, prototype design solutions, and to detail your work. Work documentation will include, and is not limited to, drawing creation of your part designs, test reports detailing your findings while evaluating prototypes, and first article reports for parts/products.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute and lead the development and evaluation of mechanical components and enclosures.

  • Develop mechanical designs based on industrial design, simulations, requirements, and manufacturability

  • Solve Technical problems and develop solutions

  • Participate in design reviews to minimize design rework

  • Design parts using parametric 3D solid modeling software using ProEngineer,

  • Uses project management skills and tools to achieve product development goals against deadlines.

  • Collaborate with Industrial Designers, Hardware Engineers, and Manufacturing Engineers to develop products that meet internal and external customer expectations.

    Manufacturing Engineer (core rotation):

    As a Manufacturing Engineer with Fluke, you will be tasked with analyzing, developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, manufacturing operation sequences, specifications, and equipment requirements for production/assembly of new and existing products. Assist new product introduction to manufacturing and released product support, with focus on metrics such as safety, quality, cost, and productivity.

    Responsibilities include:

  • Perform manufacturing engineering assignments associated with the integrity of product design to assure quality and cost-effective production.

  • Advise engineering of existing production capabilities, equipment, facilities, and standard practices to contribute to the development of designs.

  • Coordinate with support groups to ensure capabilities and capacity are developed to support new products.

  • Ensure efficient manufacturing through achieving quality, cost, operating specifications, customer and company standards and requirements.

  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles to improve production processes and achieve cost reduction.

  • Plan, define and implement new manufacturing systems as needed for new product introductions.

  • Responsible for managing and implementing projects of varying complexity and scope.

  • Ensure integrity of existing manufacturing documents and take ownership for creation of new manufacturing documentation.

  • Bachelor's degree Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET certified university.

  • Root cause analysis using various Problem-Solving methodologies.

  • Strong desire to learn new skills and build knowledge rapidly.

  • Global agility - Must be able to effectively work and support team members in multiple locations.

  • Able to build productive internal/external working relationships.

    Additional preferred skills and behaviors:

  • Internship experience preferred.

  • SolidWorks and/or Pro/Engineer experience preferred. Experience and knowledge using 3D CAD software to develop product and components with occasional design support for manufacturing systems.

  • Understanding & knowledge of continuous improvement (Toyota Production System, Kaizen, Lean, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with multiple manufacturing processes is a plus.

  • Exposure/knowledge with plastic and metal part designs (experience with injection molding is a notable benefit).

  • Leadership experience within a team, class project, or job.

  • Ability to exercise judgment within procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings required.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills.

  • Strong desire to learn new skills and build knowledge rapidly.

  • Energetic achiever who can work with a diverse set of project development personnel during the development of new products.

    Must be able to start working in Dec. 2022 or Jan. 2023.
