Fortive Corporation Director of Product Safety and Compliance in Everett, Washington

“Director of Product Safety and Compliance”, is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure products meet safety, environmental, cybersecurity, and other regulatory standards. The successful candidate will have experience evaluating market trends, understanding regulations, managing risk assessments, and overseeing testing and inspections. You will foster a culture of accountability for safety and adherence to legal standards. Lead team of 15+ individuals, contractors and partners in environmental & safety compliance group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance:

  • Identification of emerging trends before they become enacted and working with industry/trade groups to influence the thinking of the government regulators, followed by tracking the progress of the emerging regulations through enactment.

  • Interpret and organize project teams to tackle the work that must be done, when regulations are enacted.

  • Build external partners in local countries to learn early and execute fast to changing needs.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop and maintain an automated processes (e.g., a database to track compliance certifications (effective date/expiration date) and automatically notify appropriate functions in advance of expiration.)

  • Product Safety Management:

  • Lead product safety risk assessments throughout the product lifecycle, from design to post-market surveillance.

  • Oversee product testing and certification processes to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Leverage external labs into our development practices as appropriate.

  • Investigate and manage product recalls or safety incidents, coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement product safety training programs for employees across departments.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product development teams to integrate compliance requirements into new product designs.

  • Educate organization on product safety and compliance requirements

  • Collaborate with quality assurance, legal, product management and marketing teams to ensure compliance across the entire product lifecycle.

  • Partner with supply chain management to verify supplier compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Guide teams with efficient processes & tools

  • Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management on key metrics and potential risks on regular basis.

  • Communicate compliance updates and training materials to employees across the organization.

  • Participate as a leading member for the compliance/regulatory resource group to ensure Product compliance and regulatory roadmap is understood and clear along with an information exchange.

  • Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in safety, engineering or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product safety and/or compliance.

  • Minimum of 7 years of managerial experience, including leadership and people management.

  • Deep understanding of relevant product safety regulations and standards in the industry

  • Extensive experience in product compliance management, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies

  • Proven leadership skills to manage a team of compliance professionals and at a director level

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and address potential compliance issues

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders

  • Legal or technical background in product safety and compliance is preferred

The salary range for this position (in local currency) is 152,600.00 - 283,400.00
