SUMMARY: The Lead Mechanic oversees the maintenance tasks in the service, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to insure airworthiness. Ensures timely completion of tasks and provides training and mentorship for an assigned function area. Assists with Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities for short periods of time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures all tasks are promptly completed in compliance with federal regulations, customer guidelines and company policies.
Reviews required customer and FAA paperwork to ensure proper maintenance updates and compliance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.
Leads the maintenance, preventative maintenance, or alteration of, component or part thereof, only for which that Lead is rated and has satisfactorily performed the work concerned at an earlier date.
Uses technical data to order parts and ensure material is effective for component being installed on.
Ensures all parts for specialty area are ordered in a timely manner. Reviews all parts in orders.
Responsible for keeping all assigned areas clean and audit ready. Identifies and eliminates hazards that pose a risk to employee safety and quality of work. Ensures compliance with safety requirements.
Responsible for on-time delivery in assigned skill set in coordination with other skill sets.
Monitors customer adjusted due dates and hour estimates.
Reviews and approves labor hours and monitors progress of labor targets.
Responsible for assessing assigned mechanic’s skills, knowledge, and abilities prior to task assignment
Maintains accurate and current Oracle status and shop completion dates (SCD’s) of all assigned jobs
Participates in weekly forecasting of assigned jobs. Is aware of monthly budget expectations and drives to meet those goals.
Provides prompt and thorough responses to all inquiries from customers, account representatives and ATS leadership.
Notifies Supervisor of variations in labor requirements to ensure most efficient utilization of labor and resources and to avoid LOW when possible. Communicates with Supervisor all information on assigned employees including disciplinary problems. May deliver or give input with performance evaluations on assigned employees.
Responsible for setting timeframe expectations with technicians on task accomplishment. Oversees On-the-Job Training (OJT) to provide learning opportunities through work assignment and mentoring. Complies with, communicates, and provides guidance to team members on ATS policies, procedures and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements. Promotes "Balanced Technician" concept.
Mentors and develops technical and leadership skills of the mechanics. Provides regular feedback and performance coaching including appropriate management of time, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring proper knowledge and training to accomplish assignments to all members of assigned crew.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:
Duties shall include observing all company, health, safety and environmental rules, ensure provision of full information on area specific safety orientation, identify all unique hazards, and are provided with the proper equipment to carry out the job in a safe manner. Also, the entire work area must be routinely inspected to maintain a high standard of housekeeping and low incidence of physical hazards and all accidents must be promptly reported.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of four (4) years’ recent component, commercial aircraft maintenance and/or MRO experience preferred.
Leadership experience preferred.
Applicable Repairman, Airframe, or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification required.
Project management skills

General overall knowledge of major components. Proven knowledge in the procedures, practice, inspection methods, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in the area of responsibility. Detailed knowledge of specialty area, paperwork and publications and an understanding of technical information in order to troubleshoot problems.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit, stand, and walk; use their hands and arms; and talk or hear; and focus on objects close up. The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds using proper lifting protocols.
COMPENSATION:
The base salary for this position is $30.00 - $44.50 (expressed as hourly for non-exempt), exclusive of benefits or potential bonuses. This position is eligible for a quarterly corporate bonus. If you are hired at ATS, your final base hourly rate will be based on factors such as skills, education and/or experience. In addition to those factors – we consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range noted above is the full base hourly range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth . T his position is eligible for an annual bonus. We also offer a generous benefits package, as detailed below.
