T&D Engineering Technician I

Essential Function:

Become familiar with the District's procedures, policies and computer programs. Assist senior Technicians in drafting, data storage and retrieval and survey. Learn the drawing directory structure for T&D Engineering and naming conventions for drawings, locations and equipment. Begin to learn fundamental electrical principals.

Education:

Must possess a 2-year Engineering Technology Degree or have equivalent experience in the

electrical utility field.

Must have a valid Driver's license with no restrictions.

Experience:

Minimum one year on the job experience as a draftsman.

Electrical utility experience preferred, but not mandatory.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must demonstrate the ability to write legibly and print neatly.

Must have an aptitude for engineering, drafting, mathematics and survey work.

Must be proficient in AutoCAD.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform outside work occasionally. Be able to lift 10-20 lbs. Use of hand tools is required occasionally.

T&D Engineering Technician II

Essential Function:

(See T&D Engineering Technician Career Ladder for more detail) Each area is in addition to Step I essential functions:

Dispatch/GIS Technician:

With assistance input as built drawings into the District's GIS.

With assistance is capable of performing as built fieldwork.

Familiar with Grant County electrical system.

Distribution Design Technician:

With assistance produce work order packages.

With assistance survey and stake jobs.

Prepare work order estimates on assigned projects.

Substation/Transmission Design Technician:

Develop a basic knowledge of the following:

Major components of a substation and transmission line.

Drafting of civil engineering drawings for a substation and transmission line. Characteristics of concrete and soils.

One and three line schematics, relay and meter panels wiring diagrams.

With assistance survey and construction stakes jobs.

Telecommunications Technician:

Develop room layouts for interface connections.

Field survey fiber routes and splice information.

Develop rack location layouts.

Determine AC/DC power requirements for equipment.

Understand fundamentals of HVAC.

Telecommunications Fiber Technician:

Develop an understanding of the District's fiber system to include: hub information, cut sheet information, cables and splices.

Perform fieldwork to include as-building, location of equipment and some staking.

Learn the fiber tracking system.

CAD Technician:

Process all outside drawings for plotting and storage.

Various drafting projects as assigned.

Assist with any problems with CAD system or other related T&D Engineering software.

Education:

Must possess a 2-year Engineering Technology Degree or have equivalent experience in the electrical utility field.

Must have a valid Driver's license with no restrictions.

Experience:

Minimum two years on the job experience as a draftsman.

Performed the duties of Engineering Technician I, met the requirements of Engineering Tech II in that discipline or have had equivalent experience in the electrical utility field.

Electrical utility experience preferred, but not mandatory.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Essential Function:

Dispatch/GIS Technician:

Perform advanced fieldwork.

Use known construction practices to interpret work orders to map.

Produce specialized maps from the District's GIS and CAD programs.

Map all types of work orders.

Distribution Design Technician:

Produce designs and work order packages for construction of facilities.

Substation/Transmission Technician:

Produce substation and transmission civil engineering drawings, schematics and relay and meter panel wiring diagrams.

Perform, read and interpret survey work.

Perform fieldwork.

Telecommunications Technician:

Using standard telecommunications design criteria - design voice and data circuits, outside communication cable links, and radio and microwave radio paths.

Assist in layouts and designs of wireless network systems.

Telecommunications Fiber Technician:

Produce designs and work order packages for construction of fiber facilities.

Develop fiber splicing assignments.

Perform fieldwork.

Update and file accurate as-built drawings for permanent records.

CAD Technician:

Customize toolbars and creates macros in the District CAD software.

Produce highly specialized maps using a variety of formats.

Test and specify new platforms for better performance.

Helps maintain the mapping system.

Education:

Must possess a 2-year Engineering Technology Degree or have equivalent experience in the electrical utility field.

Must have a valid Driver's license with no restrictions.

Experience:

Minimum two years on the job experience as a draftsman.

Essential Function:

Open and close devices in mapping system and report results.

Perform highly specialized queries to obtain data from mapping system.

Assist Dispatch during outages.

Distribution Dispatch Technician:

Produce a variety of work order packages.

Attend pre-construction meetings representing the District.

Perform calculations of material strength, sags, conduits, voltage drops.

Substation/Transmission Technician:

Consult on District substation specifications.

Extensive surveying.

Assist in substation and transmission calculations.

Telecommunications Technician:

Provide room layout designs for telecommunications equipment.

Design telecommunication channel assignments for voice and data circuits.

Provide fiber designs for substations and telecommunications sites.

Telecommunications Fiber Technician:

Produce cut sheets for given hub areas.

Determine right-of-way needs and file appropriate documents.

Consult with construction crews on jobs.

Calculate sags, clearances, conduits. cable pulling.

CAD Technician:

Solve computer and printer/plotter problems.

Assist with maintenance of GIS software.

Apply CAD software upgrades.

Education:

Must possess a 2-year Engineering Technology Degree or have equivalent experience in the electrical utility field.

Must have a valid Driver's license with no restrictions.

Experience:

Minimum two years on the job experience as a draftsman.

Performed the duties of Engineering Technician 111, met the requirements of Engineering Tech IV in that discipline or have had equivalent experience in the electrical utility field.

Keep cadastral maps current with Grant County mapping system.

Produce feeder plate and distribution books.

Plan, organize. direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

Distribution Design Technician:

Work as project lead on major work orders.

Plan, organize, direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

Substation/Transmission Technician:

Interface with outside consultants on drawings and designs.

Maintain technical information on substations, transmission and equipment.

Work as project lead on major projects.

Plan, organize, direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

Telecommunications Technician:

Perform terrain analyses for radio propagation.

Help maintain the District's SON ET network, data network, mobile radio system and VoIP. Plan, organize, direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

Telecommunications Fiber Technician:

Design hub areas.

Recommend extensions or contractions of hub areas.

Work as project lead on major projects.

Plan, organize, direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

CAD Technician:

Program and develop software to enhance production.

Recommend technical specifications, testing and quality control for upgrades.\

Assist in all areas of District CAD operation.

Plan, organize, direct and train other Engineering Technicians.

Education:
