Position Summary

This position reports directly to the Chief Customer Officer and is a key leader in driving the growth and evolution of Grant PUD’s electric power and fiber broadband products and services. It is responsible for overseeing the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch, and plays a crucial role in ensuring our products align with market demands, industry trends, and the company's sustainability goals. As part of the product development function, this position also is responsible for managing the Energy Services and Rates and Pricing functions.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Product Development Strategy: Act as owner of the product development roadmap. Lead the product development team to develop and implement a comprehensive product development strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and market trends in the electric utility industry.

  • Product Pricing: Manage rates and pricing team through changes for existing products and services. Collaborate with strategic power planning group to develop rates and pricing for new products and service offerings.

  • Innovation Leadership: Lead a team of product development professional in the ideation, design, and launch of innovative electric utility products and services.

  • Energy Services Leadership: Provide leadership, direction and oversight for the energy services team, ensuring that they provide beneficial and compliance energy services to our customers in line with market research.

  • Rates and Pricing Leadership: Lead the rates and pricing team to continually evaluate and update existing rate structures to meet evolving needs and work with the Energy Supply Management, Finance and the rest of the product development teams to provide potential rate structures for new products and services.

  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify opportunities, assess customer needs, and stay informed about emerging technologies and industry advancements.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, regulatory affairs, customer solutions, large power solutions, strategic power planning, and finance, to ensure seamless product development processes.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all new products and services comply with relevant regulations and standards within the electric utility industry.

  • Financial Management: Work closely with strategic power planning and finance teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models for new product development initiatives.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with product development, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Performance Measurement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of new products and services post-launch.

  • Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the External Affairs & Communications team to develop a marketing campaign that adheres to Grant PUD’s branding efforts and achieves established performance metrics.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry partners, and customers.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and Grant PUD/IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.

  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures.

  • Actively support and participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to:

  • Following all safety policies and procedures;

  • Alerting supervisors and coworkers of unsafe or hazardous working conditions;

  • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and

  • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

  • Be viewed as a safety champion by demonstrating through words and actions, that safety is our paramount value by actively:

  • Supporting the presence of safety in your Operating Unit (e.g. Include safety messages in business conversations; begin meetings as appropriate with a safety minute).

  • Acknowledging compliant safety behaviors and good safety performance from members of your team(s)

  • Ensuring that middle managers are actively supporting their teams in safety efforts such as continuous improvement teams, Safety & Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) responsibilities, hazard identification, metric reporting and compliance, etc.

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in product development within the electric utility or similar industry.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field.

License and Certification

Required

  • Washington Driver’s License

Preferred

  • Certified Innovation Leader (CIL) Certification OR New Product Development Professional (NPDP) Certification

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven leadership and team management skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of electric utility regulations, technologies, and market dynamics.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with other departments and gain support for product development initiatives.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting.
