About the Position: Serves as the Maintenance Worker Helper who performs maintenance activities for the Fish Passage Facility (FPF) for Mud Mountain Dam (MMD) on the White River near Enumclaw in King County, WA.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Perform simple electrical and mechanical tasks by following instruction from journeyman-level employees.
  • Perform minor repairs of plumbing facilities such as replacing faucets, hose connections, fish flumes and pipes, drains, heat traces, pipe, and miscellaneous fixtures.
  • Assist journeyman-level employees to install, construct, repair or modify items and structures.
  • Paint equipment, gates, road surfaces, curbs, fish tanks, buildings, and furniture items using standard brushing or spraying techniques under the direction of a journeyman-level employee.
  • Under the guidance and supervision of journeyman-level employees, performs a variety of welding processes to carry out standard welding operations, not requiring critical stress or testing of weld.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as preparing purchase card requests, maintaining roads, clearing debris from channels, cutting trees and limbs, opening and closing gates, cleaning building and restrooms, pressure washing and sediment removal.

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing and able work rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE WORKER HELPER without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform the majority of the following routine duties, working from easily understood written and oral directions: carpentry, painting, plumbing, metal work, concrete work, mechanical maintenance, grounds maintenance, structures, fixtures, utilities and equipment, without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Uses moderate physical effort in the process of stacking, loading, unloading, moving, and carrying tools, equipment, and materials as heavy as 50 lbs. Frequently required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May occasionally work in cramped and confined quarters, and the work requires expending significant effort in moving materials and adjusting and placing heavy equipment throughout the day.
