Job Summary:

This job is responsible for serving as the direct interface between patient/family and CHI Franciscan Food and Nutrition Services with respect to meal selections in accordance with diet orders and department standards. Incumbents are assigned to a specific set of rooms for their work day/schedule in order to cultivate a relationship with patients, family members and unit staff.

Work includes placing patients’ orders electronically utilizing a bedside-mounted PC equipped with the dietary food management (DFM) technology which is integrated with the electronic medical record (EPIC).

An incumbent also provides personalized delivery of meal trays and assures, within scope of position, that tray contents are accurate to diet specifications and patient order preferences.

Work requires basic knowledge of division-approved diets in order to assist, inform and guide patients in placing meal orders and to facilitate optimum patient nutritional care and customer satisfaction. An incumbent will proactively address service and/or quality issues as they occur, working with the greatest degree of patient satisfaction in mind and taking personal responsibility for expedient action and effective solutions.

Essential Duties:

Takes patient meal orders from the bedside using the electronic room service program (DFM) in accordance with established standards and procedures.

Interacts with assigned patients and their care teams to facilitate exceptional customer service in meeting patient room service needs; promotes perception of “personal service” through individualized ordering and meal delivery.

Provides basic information, within scope of position, to patients with respect to nutrition and therapeutic diet.


Education/Work Experience Requirements

One year of related work experience in the hospitality, retail or healthcare service fields that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities.


Valid Department of Health Food Handler’s permit issued by the State of Washington.

Advanced Food Safety Certification (e.g. NEHA, ServSafe) is required within 90 days of date of hire.
