Job SummaryThis position is responsible to lead, train, assign and inspect the work of subordinate staff and perform journey-level inspections, diagnostics, major/minor overhauls, repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment including but not limited to: heavy equipment, small equipment, farm implements, power and hand tools, wash station/pit, trash compactor station, and all other university owned equipment used in the maintenance operation and the motor pool fleet. Work is performed professionally and efficiently, incorporating both personal integrity and mutual respect. All employees are expected to support CWU’s commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.Job DutiesPerform all aspects of Equipment Technician 3 duties (Vehicles/Equipment over 15,000 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)) to include but not limited to:-Effectively communicate and maintain positive working relations with faculty, staff, students and the campus community as well as Facilities Management Department (FMD) management team. Perform work in a manner that provides excellent service with nominal to no inconvenience or disruption for the client. Perform quality work that meets or exceeds the expectation and satisfaction of the client.-Perform work using Best Practices while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, policies and procedures to provide a safe workplace.-Perform journey-level inspections, diagnostics, major/minor overhauls, repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment including but not limited to: heavy equipment, front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, sweeper/vac trucks, packer truck, etc.-Observe, listen and determine mechanical defects and malfunctions. Road test equipment to ensure that malfunctions have been corrected.-Perform engine tune-ups and ignition system adjustments. Inspect, adjust and reline brakes within specified guidelines.-Use a variety of hand tools, diagnostic equipment and a variety of mechanical aids in the repair, adjustment and maintenance of motorized equipment, such as; voltage and regulator tester, wheel balancer, wheel pullers, jacks, air tools, On-board diagnostics (OBD) scanner, computerized diagnostic devices, emission testers.-Utilize electric and acetylene-welding equipment for repairs and fabrication of parts.-Use a computer to maintain complete and accurate records pertaining to vehicle/equipment service and repairs, inventories of shop parts, materials and supplies. Provide feedback to Supervisor on the need to order parts, material and supplies. Assist Supervisor in the preparation of specifications and purchase requisitions.-Prepare accurate and itemized cost estimates for equipment repairs and maintenance.-Using knowledge of equipment operation, effectiveness and user requirements make recommendations on new equipment purchases.-Read, interpret, and process work orders in a timely manner.Lead Duties:-Provide training.-Lead and instruct subordinate personnel performing various automobile/equipment repairs and maintenance activities.-Assign and inspect work assignments for completion; ensure departmental standards and deadlines are met; report status and condition to supervisors. Provide written/verbal feedback to supervisor to assist with work assignments and job performance. Review time keeping and work order entries for accuracy.-Evaluate the performance of student/temporary assistants.-Instruct assigned personnel in the appropriate use, safe operation and maintenance of equipment and safety practices while maintaining compliance with applicable policies and procedures to provide a safe workplace.
