COMPENSATION: $90/dayfor new hires, $105/day returning staff

  

SUMMARY

CampOrkila'sOuttripCoordinatorsare responsible forensuring that all overnight trips have proper food and equipment.Additionally,OuttripCoordinatorsmaintaininventories, clean and repair supplies, and support staff and participants in preparing for their trips.  

OuttripCoordinators have a secondary role in supporting Teen Expedition programs byassistingwithfacilitatingprograms, providing overnight cabin coverage, and working directly with youth inthese programs.OuttripCoordinators are supervised by an Assistant Director and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Organizes and packs all necessary equipment and food for trips, while accommodating specific needs of that trip or its participants 

  2. Participates in staff meetings andtrainings. 

  3. Assures thatall ofthe program outcomes are met. 

  4. Ensures the health and safety of all participants and staff. 

  5. Maintainshigh standardsof housekeeping including bathrooms,cabinsand main lodge.

  6. Assistsin keeping all program equipment in working condition and available, including teaching participantsproper equipment usage

  7. Assistsinmaintainingall program areas in a safe and orderly condition

  8. Maintains communication with supervisor. 

  9. Communicates personal or camper needs to supervisorin a timely manner. 

  10. Stays on call overnight as assigned.

  11. Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards.

  12. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 

  13. Other duties as assigned. 

Staff typically live in either shared cabins with campers, or in shared and housing with staff for the duration of employment. Specific housing depends on position and availability.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. 18 years of age or older. 

  2. Current CPRcertification. 

  3. Current Wilderness First Aid certification strongly preferred (paid course is provided as a part of training).Documentedskills in one or more of the following: kayaking, sailing, bike touring, rock climbing, and backpackingstrongly preferred

  4. Skills in teen leadership development. 

  5. Current Washington State food handlers permit(paid course is provided as a part of training). 

  6. Ability toparticipatein activities that involve rigorous activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating,campingand swimming. 

  7. Ability to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staff in a professional manner.

If applicable, other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience whichprovidethe knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer knowledge of andpreviousexperiencewith,diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.
