Position Details:

 

Summary of Duties:

 

Responsible for management and coordination of the day-to-day administration of the CSS-led interdepartmental and cooperative Washington Oilseed Cropping Systems agriculture research and outreach programs, with a focus on management of small and large scale variety trials. Responsible for supervision of seasonal workers and students assigned to work at with the project; maintenance of shop and storage facilities. Requires intimate knowledge of and skills for operation of specialized equipment and instrumentation required for direct seed and precision agriculture research and extension functions, knowledge of field research methods, ability to analyze data using appropriate statistical analyses, and written and oral communication skills.

 

• Plan and coordinate multiple field trials to include large-scale canola variety trials

 

• Lead and organize annual oilseed workshops and field tours including creating planning committees comprised of growers, industry and university personnel; securing and working with venue logistics; contacting speakers; forming agendas; and other related tasks.

 

• Manage editing and submission of Extension publications from the WOCS team including production of Fact Sheets and Bulletins.

 

• Assist in maintaining WOCS website, provide material for Facebook page, and other social media.

 

• Work with WOCS research lead to identify communication needs and potential collaborative and complimentary projects within the WOCS team.

 

• Communicate on a regular basis with the WOCS research lead

 

• Compile and publish annual WOCS abstracts and annual report with assistance from Samantha Crow.

 

• Participate as member of WSU Extension Dryland Crops Team

 

• Serve as resource to field questions from farmers, industry, agency, and university personnel associated with canola research, production, and Extension activities in WA and the inland PNW production region

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• MS in weed science, plant breeding, or closely related degree programs,

 

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other scientists,

 

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• At least one year of experience managing an applied variety testing program

 

• A record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals commensurate with career level,

 

• Knowledge of field research techniques related to variety testing, including statistical analysis of results

 

• Demonstrated record of supervising graduate students, hourly workers, and staff.

 

• Ability to coordinate and facilitate project work activities in a timely and efficient manner; operate a personal computer with MS office; operate, maintain and repair field research equipment.
