Job Description Directs and oversees back office operations and the monthly closing process to ensure accuracy and completeness in gas, power and derivative transactions. Responsible for the documentation, evaluation and accounting of derivative contracts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsible for evaluating variable interest entities and lease obligations related to energy resource acquisitions or structures. Researches and communicates changes in derivative accounting and/or variable interest entities accounting to management. Ensures SOX procedures and controls are being complied with and working according to documentation. Ensures continual improvement of processes. Oversees accounting staff including maintenance of the general ledger system for energy related accounts. Works with external auditors to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles related to energy accounting, derivative accounting and variable interest entities evaluations. Provides guidance and leadership to accountants. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. Demonstrates commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically and consistent with our core values and Code of Conduct. Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews. Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results. Troubleshoots accounting process flow and data integrity issues for the department to ensure smooth running of departmental operations including processing of electric power and natural gas purchase and sales, account reconciliations, settlements, monthly reports, and complex calculations such as the PCA and PGA. Works closely with the Energy Management Committee (EMC) and peers across the organization such as energy portfolio management, energy resources and credit risk management groups. Responsible for research and implementation of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations that affects energy and derivative accounting or variable interest entities. Monitors internal controls and actively updates and tests SOX 404 procedures. Keeps abreast of current trends, practices, and developments in the profession. Makes recommendations
