NEW Health Programs Association Triage Nurse in Chewelah, Washington

Purpose of Job:

Improve the overall health of the communities we serve by assessing patients' conditions via telephone or upon arrival and prioritizing their care based on the severity of their symptoms and ensuring they receive timely and appropriate medical attention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates actively in patient care activities within the clinical area including but not limited to: telephone triage, medication refills, coordinating referral activity when clinical information is necessary (such as preauthorization's), and returning phone messages.
  • Utilizes triage resources consistently and works with provider staff on obtaining clinical information from patients or parents during the call that helps the provider ascertain an appropriate plan of action.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to the medical assistant staff if there are questions or concerns regarding the care or treatment of a patient in the office (including rapid responses, vaccine or medication validation, and any other clinically related practice that may benefit from the expertise of a licensed registered nurse [RN])
  • Assists with auditing of medical assistants' charts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Actively participates in the development of education tools to better educate patients and staff on the aspects of triage, including education, patient newsletters, and staff meetings.
  • Notifies physician staff in a timely manner, as appropriate, regarding unusual or unexpected events/problems requiring direct physician consultation or intervention.
  • Maintains current Title X Program knowledge and monitors program success.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining procedures and workflows related to the Title X Program.
  • Collaborates with providers and staff to promote awareness and ensure Title X requirements are met.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information as specifically outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Other Duties as assigned
  • Travel may be required.
Qualifications

Education/Experience: An associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing is required.  A registered Nurse License in Washington State is required, current CPR certification or completion within six months of hire, and 1 to 3 years experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified is preferred. 

Skills:  Strong clinical assessment skills required.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to move around the facility; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
