Heavy Equipment and Truck Mechanic Job Description 

We're searching for a mechanically-skilled heavy equipment mechanic to add to our team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying problems in large machines and the engines that power them. You'll also be tasked with resolving any problems that you find and maintaining large machines to ensure they work properly for as long as possible.

To do this, you'll need to use a wide variety of tools and equipment. You should be capable of using these things without having any supervision. Additionally, you should be skilled at spotting mechanical problems and resolving them as efficiently as possible.

Heavy Equipment, Lowboy Trucks, Log Trucks and Dump Trucks Mechanic Responsibilities:

Diagnose and repair equipment and trucks either in the shop or woods.

Once a problem is identified, determine the best resolution and work efficiently to complete it

Order parts

Complete maintenance tasks such as lubricating and cleaning engines

Replace damaged parts with various hand and power tools

Answer radio and telephone

Diagnose problems over radio or phone - determine how to proceed with problems with minimum down time.

Communicate with equipment operators to know what is needed to be take to the job site - GO PREPARED

Go to Spokane or wherever to get parts

Take larger parts to Spokane to get repaired

Operate machine for diagnostic purpose

Schedule repairs in advance that are not emergencies

Decide which parts need to be kept in stock

Read manuals for modifications or just to get familiar with machines

Weld on machines and trucks

Machine work on the lathe

Stock Shop with tools and equipment to do repairs on machinery

Fabricate and make modifications to equipment

Hydraulic repair of various motors, cylinders, valves and pumps

Read about and talk to other shops for modifications to equipment to minimize expense

Check out new machines to keep up on new ideas and new manufacturing changes

Keep Shop and Service Truck clean and organized

Consult with other mechanics as needed to find the best solution to the problem 

 

Heavy Equipment and Truck Mechanic Requirements:

CDL

Computer Skills including Diagnostic Software

High school diploma or equivalent
