CHEWELAH SCHOOL DISTRICT #36 IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR:

BUS MECHANIC

[Full-time position]{.underline}

[JOB GOAL]{.underline}:

Work with the Transportation Supervisor to provide a safe, effective and efficient transportation system; maintain a safe, smooth functioning physical plant in which effective maintenance can be performed; and maintain all district vehicles at a high level of safe and effective functioning.

[QUALIFICATIONS:]{.underline}

A minimum of four years of experience maintaining and repairing trucks or buses, in an organization having full maintenance facilities.  Experience or responsibilities may include the following areas:

  1. Assisting with routing and scheduling.
  2. Assisting with bus/truck driver training.
  3. Performing bus/truck maintenance.
  4. Assisting with inventory control and ordering of repair parts.
  5. Performing general inspection and repair analysis.
  6. Monitoring of safety standards or participation on safety committee.

Alternatives to the above qualifications may be substituted as determined acceptable and appropriate by the school board.

Must be knowledgeable of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations and procedures relating to pupil transportation.  Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License with CDL Type A and B with Air Brake and Passenger endorsement and a Washington State School Bus Driver's Certificate. Pre-employment conditions include a State Patrol check, FBI clearance, and Drug/Alcohol testing. Must submit to random drug/alcohol testing while employed according to district policy.  Must demonstrate organizational skills and interpersonal skills necessary to work with a wide variety of people and agencies.  Heavy lifting, flexibility, and dexterity are required.

[PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:]{.underline}

  1. Maintains district vehicles consistent with directions from the Transportation Supervisor.
  2. Provides prevention maintenance and routine service on buses, cars and ground equipment.
  3. When necessary, checks routes and roads and reports conditions to the Superintendent in cooperation with the Transportation Supervisor.
  4. Assists in developing specifications and bidding buses with assistance of Supervisor of Transportation.
  5. Assists in the sale of buses.
  6. Prepares school buses and cars for school inspection.
  7. Responsible for stalled or disabled district vehicles on the road.
  8. Assists buses with problems related to accident or road or weather conditions.
  9. Assists with acceptance inspections of buses new to the district in cooperation with Transportation Supervisor.
  10. Assures that warrantee work is done to vehicles or equipment under warranty.
  11. Conducts route planning and surveys in cooperation with supervisor of transportation.
  12. Maintains maintenance and grounds equipment.
  13. Maintains records as required by the district, ESD, and the State.
  14. Maintains the district bus shop and tools.
  15. Provides the Transportation Supervisor and Superintendent with reports as required.
  16. Assists the superintendent as may be required from time to time to fulfill the responsibilities of this position or to meet other needs of the school district, as assigned.
  17. Stores vehicles to prevent vandalism.
  18. Orders parts for buses and equipment in cooperation with the supervisor of transportation.
  19. Drives school bus as needed.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Transportation Supervisor.
