Summary

The CNC Machinist/Operator is responsible for the timely and efficient fabrication of CNC manufactured parts or tooling as the arrive in the shop and in the priority established by the Manufacturing Floor Lead and/or Department Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating CNC controlled machines to cut, shape and machine aluminum sheet metal as well as composites, steel, and titanium plate to customer specifications.
  • Maintain part specifications and aerospace tolerances by reviewing new machine programs, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprograming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Rework all parts to correct any Quality Control inspection findings.
  • Train to obtain and maintain an adequate knowledge of skills required to perform the work including, but not limited to: ability to read and understand OEM/Volant assembly and detail drawings; read and understand process and materials specifications, and the use of calibrated equipment etc.
  • Strive to meet or exceed established delivery schedules and notify the Manufacturing Floor Lead in advance of any potential slippage. Ensure the On-Time Delivery expectation is met as noted on the Volant Quality Objectives.
  • Ensure that all company documentation (e.g. Production Orders, Inventory Requests etc.) are accurately filled out at the time that each step is completed. Failing to fill in completed steps or filling in steps ahead of completion are not acceptable.
  • Ensure that job clock ins in ERP system are accurately made throughout the work day.  It is not acceptable to not be clocked in on a job during work hours; accuracy must be of paramount concern.
  • Assist the Manufacturing Floor Lead and Supervisor in ensuring all safety, regulatory and federal requirements are maintained and met.  As daily floor personnel, the technician is often the first person to encounter safety or job hazard conditions that must be reported and resolved.
  • Maintain a clean and organized department. Perform all scheduled maintenance as dictated by the VT Volant Cleaning and Maintenance manual.  Ensure that manual requirements are properly documented and completed in a timely fashion.
