Responsibilities

Job Summary

  • Delivers accurate and therapeutic doses of external-beam radiation therapy to precisely-defined targets for curative and palliative treatment of cancer/benign neoplasms.

  • Delivers accurate and safe treatment to the patient providing the highest quality care by adhering to radiation safety practices and operating all equipment in a safe and proper manner.

  • Works is performed by following a prescribed planned course of radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist in accordance with standards of professional radiation therapy practice department policies procedures guidelines and protocols.

  • Performs needed assessment care and treatment planning for patient population.

  • Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals books and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences.

Essential Duties

  • Pre-screens job applicants and may conduct initial employment interviews; participates in the processes for employee new hires and terminations; may conduct department-level new hire orientations.

  • Responsible for aiding supervisor in staff development and education. Trains new employees on linear accelerators simulator and IMPAC computer system.

  • Monitors workflow on treatment machines including working with staff and patients to insure that quality standards are routinely carried out and that all preliminary work is complete checked and implemented in a timely fashion. Problem solves treatment issues including working with and providing support for multiple computer systems.

  • Prepares work schedules and equipment rotations for radiation therapists and reviews work to ensure it meets quality and productivity standards.

  • Orders/maintains appropriate supply levels; identifies training needs and advises higher-level authority.

  • Monitors individual staff performance and provides feedback to higher-level authority; coaches employees on procedures and protocols; provides input on employee performance evaluations; may make recommendations with respect to employee pay recognition discipline and/or termination.

  • May assist in implementing new procedures or processes; explains new and/or revised procedures forms or other tools to staff; may demonstrate new systems PC applications equipment or supplies. Responsible for technical and computer knowledge as an expert on the Varian and IMPAC computer systems.

  • Assists employees with complex/unprecedented/ambiguous matters reviews elevated issues/situations and takes action consistent with assigned scope of authority.

  • Verifies daily billing. Coordinates paper and computer system data for accuracy and completeness.

  • Functions as supervisor in the absence of manager/director.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.

  • One year of directly related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities preferred.

  • One year of work experience in the “core” level of the job family or any combination of experience or education that would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the policies standards procedures processes and tools applicable to the work unit and the function.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements as they relate to standards for the functionality operation and maintenance of machines/equipment for radiation delivery.

  • Ability to maintain good communication with supervisor and manager.

License/Certification :

  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) (T) – required.

  • Current licensure as a Certified Radiological Technologist/Therapeutic - (Required) in Washington State.

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.

  • Current membership in the American Society of Radiological Technologists (ASRT) is preferred.

Pay Range

$44.63 - $68.60 /hour
