Duties

As a Senior Telecommunications Specialist (STS) you will operate as a journeyman level technician that provides 24x7 maintenance, installation, and support of the WSP public safety communication systems which consist of both digital and analog microwave radio systems, land mobile radio base stations and repeaters, voting systems, communications consoles, and various other infrastructure equipment.     Additionally, you will provide maintenance, installation, and support of mobile and portable two-way radios, speed measuring devices (SMD), telecommunications devices such as VoIP telephones, and various other agency electronic equipment support needs. You may be assigned to perform system-level administration and monitoring of complex networked radio and data systems and equipment. Travel: A take home vehicle will be assigned and require you to live within forty-five (45) miles of your assigned district, division or duty station. Travel statewide is required for agency and division functions, training, WSP infrastructure support and project support and this may result in overnight stays.  Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Perform semi-annual and/or annual preventative maintenance and repairs on live microwave radio system equipment, land mobile radio infrastructure equipment, dispatch consoles, telecommunications equipment, speed-measuring devices, and data network equipment per division preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Perform monthly inspections of assigned communications sites and ensure these sites are kept in a clean, safe, and fully functional condition.
  • Installation, programming, and repairs for WSP and contracted outside agencies.
  • Respond to Emergency Communication System service outages and restore services in a timely manner.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Washington State driver's license
  • Two  years of formal education or training in electronics
  • Five years of paid experience in maintenance and repair of at least one of the following:
    • Two-way radio systems and equipment
    • Digital and analog microwave carrier systems
    • Wireless and wired data network systems
  • Experience and understanding of computer based applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of computer networks, wiring standards and protocols.
