Responsibilities You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas. You will maintain security equipment to confirm proper working order and functionality. You will use a computer system and software to prepare written reports of unusual situations and conditions encountered. You will speak with witnesses or persons involved in accidents to obtain statements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events. GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general and 6 months of specialized experience. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events. General experience must demonstrate the following: Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information. Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. A Compressed Work Schedule (40+) hours per week is typical for this position. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Call back and emergency overtime may be requirements of this position. Work may include assignment to train second, third or rotating shifts or weekends and holidays. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. Physical Demands: The work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching and similar activities. Work Environment: Work is performed for the most part is outdoors in the heat, cold, rain, and wind during the hours of daylight and darkness; with work in or under extremely dangerous conditions. The work environment regularly involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environment stress which requires a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent may also work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, noise, and heat.
