Commander, Navy Installations Recreation Specialist - Fitness in Bremerton, Washington

Summary Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); Naval Base Kitsap.}** Responsibilities Conducts an ongoing variety of fitness classes and sets up individual fitness programs for patrons on various equipment and ensuring that the patrons fully understand how to safely exercise and operate all equipment. Applies knowledge of fitness techniques and programs to provide a variety of ongoing fitness programs and instructions such as introduction to fitness lifestyle changes, basic muscular toning, circuit training, aerobic conditioning training, etc. for purpose of providing patrons with a broader understanding and application of fitness, skills and abilities. Assist in designing individualized exercise programs for patrons based on their goals or current fitness status by performing fitness profile testing (Aerobic capacity, blood pressure, heart rate and body composition). Screen participant for cardiovascular risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire. Enforce all rules and regulations of the fitness center. Attend fitness meetings, workshops, and seminars presented by the Fitness Manager and other outside organizations. Incumbent must exercise tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required. Certification obtained from ACSM or American Council on Exercise within 6 months of employment. This position is Flexible category, up to 40 hours of work per week, can include nights, weekends and holidays. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions. This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, stooping, walking, pushing, climbing and lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Qualifications A degree in health and fitness field or two years of experience in health and fitness field and high school diploma. Must have current nationally recognized certifications of the following: personal training, group exercise instructor, CPR and AED. Must be able to competently and independently plan, develop and conduct a diversified fitness program through proper application of fitness principles, concepts and techniques that relate to the specific needs of the patrons and the interests of the military community at several locations. Extensive oral and written communications skills and ability to speak in public forums. Computer competency in Microsoft office: Word, Excel and Power Point. Must be available to work all operational hours. Incumbent must have or obtain certification from the American College of Sports Medicine or The American Council on Exercise in personal training and group fitness within 6 months of placement in the position. Education A Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine or a Health related field is desired, or two-years' experience within the health/fitness field and a high school diploma. Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
