Kitsap County Internship-Emergency Management in Bremerton, Washington

Kitsap County supports internship programs that provide work experience for students that is related to their course of study in an accredited post-secondary institution.  The internship program is designed so that the student will have the opportunity to apply principles and theories learned in the classroom, gain new skills, explore a career path and be supervised and mentored by professionals in their field.  

As an Emergency Management Intern, you will work closely with emergency management and assist with development of exercises, event action plans, the EOC operations manual.

  • Term of internship: Begins approximately May/June and may go through the end of September. 
  • Paid internship, 12-15 hours per week, flexible days. 
  • Applications will be reviewed in the week of April 7th. 

     

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

[Minimum Qualifications]{.underline}:

  • Must be able to show proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution at the time of internship.  If the internship occurs during the summer, the student may provide proof of summer or fall enrollment. 

[Desired Majors and Class Level]{.underline}

  • Emergency Management or related field.
  • Sophomore(2Y) - Senior(4Y)

[Learning Objectives]{.underline} By the end of this internship, you will:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) through the development of a tabletop exercise. 
  • Increase understanding of the COOP / COG process and development process.
  • Show practical application of learning through the development of an Event Action Plan (EAP)
  • Show practical application of learning through the development of two Job Action Sheets and two position checklists applicable to the Kitsap County DEM EOC.
  • Show practical understanding of Emergency Management through work on editing and updating the Comprehensive emergency Management Plan

  • Intern will receive supervision from an administrative superior as assigned. 
  • Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted practices. 
  • Work is reviewed through status reports, meetings and observations.
