Job Summary:

This job is responsible for providing integrative health services, consultation and education to patients/staff in a hospital or outpatient clinic environment and to the general community as requested. An incumbent supports, promotes and enhances a healthy environment and a mind-body-spirit approach to holistic health/wellness through the provision of non-pharmaceutical therapy modalities on-site and/or at the bedside/chairside that facilitate sustained integration into daily life. Treatment modalities performed include aromatherapy, pet therapy, art therapy, deep relaxation/therapeutic yoga, soft touch hand massage, Reiki therapy and/or therapeutic music therapy within an incumbent’s scope of practice. Referrals are predominantly driven by clinical staff, and through information presented at community events.

Work requires knowledge of the techniques that are foundational to the practice of specific therapies, and sufficient understanding to effectively apply to interventions in ways that are sensitive to, and consistent with, the individualized needs of the recipient. The ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences in a respectful, positive and supportive manner is also required.

Essential Duties:

  • Plans, develops and/or coordinates non-pharmaceutical integrative health programs/services for patients, staff and/or as requested by members of the community.

  • Assesses individual needs through observations, medical records and collaboration with other healthcare professionals, patient’s families and direct patient contact.

  • Screens volunteer staff for individual aptitudes and determines assignment to best-fit therapeutic modality.

  • Documents plan of care which includes patient’s progress, evaluation of interventions and effectiveness of care.

  • Participates in community events, workshops and group presentations that increase awareness, provide education and foster community/provider support in the areas of Integrative Health and Wellness.


Education/Work Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Health/Wellness, Psychology, Art/Music Therapy, Exercise Physiology or other field related to integrative health therapies and one year of work experience providing related services in a clinical setting that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities. Master’s degree is required for Art Therapist certification.


  • Yoga Therapist Certification through International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), OR

  • Music Therapist-Board Certified through American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), OR

  • Board Certified Art Therapist through the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. (ATCB).
