Continental Tide is seeking an experienced and skilled General Laborer/ Fire Watcher. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.
A fire watch is the person or persons responsible for continuously observing hot work activity for the detection of, and response to, fires during hot work operations. A fire watch has the authority to stop work if necessary and conduct essential steps for restoring safe conditions within the hot work area. The person performing the hot work cannot be the fire watch. That worker is concentrating on their own work and will not be able to react quickly enough should a fire ignite. Therefore, another employee or employees must be assigned the fire watch duty. Similarly, personnel actively engaged as the fire watch cannot perform other duties. Their focus and only duty is to watch for and respond to fires that occur during hot work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Familiar with performing tasks involving physical labor.
Lifts and moves materials, loads and unloads vehicles, uses and operates various tools and machines (hand tools, forklifts) and cleans and prepares work sites.
Assists to remove hazardous waste materials.
Performs simple repairs on machinery with basic handtools.
Assists other trade workers by performing duties for firewatch, welder's helper, or install electric cable.
Developing and implementing a written Fire Safety Plan; and reviewing the Fire Safety Plan with employees;
Providing outside organizations expected to respond to fires with a copy of the Fire Safety Plan;
Informing all employers on the worksite about the Fire Safety Plan, fire-related hazards, and emergency procedures;
Performs general maintenance tasks.
Required Experience:
Requirements:
Must possess a high school, trade or vocational school degree.
1-5 years of professional experience; direct experience in fireWatch, ship repair and installation type projects is preferred but not required.
Must have the ability to obtain base access and security credentials…e.g. DBIDS NAVSEA Badge
Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
Due to export control regulations, this role is open to U.S. citizens only.
Preferred qualifications:
Certified in 'Multi-pin' Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA) is a MUST.
Certified in Fiber Optic: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC is a PLUS.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a marine electrician.
Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements.
Currently certified to accomplish wire way inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items.
Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus.
Pulling and splicing wires.
Circuit Labeling.
Circuiting testing and troubleshooting.
Security Requirements:
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and Naval installations.

Travel Requirements:
Occasional Travel- up t0 10% within and outside of the continental United States.
If a position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.
