Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the samples.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

  • Update patient information accurately.

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Fully understand all physicians' orders.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport.

  • Store specimen samples according to required temperatures.

Essential Skills

  • WA state Phlebotomy license

  • Experience with both pediatric and geriatric patients

  • Proficiency in blood draws, specimen labeling, and centrifuging

  • Ability to update patient information accurately

  • Strong understanding of physicians' orders

  • Attention to detail in matching requisition forms to specimen tubes

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in recording maintenance data and equipment decontamination

  • Clear and courteous communication skills

  • Ability to demonstrate venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles

Work Environment

The position works Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, alongside 1 to 2 other phlebotomists at the location. Initial training will take place in Seattle for 2 weeks, with travel mileage eligible for expense reimbursement.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.10/hr.
