Basic Function

The Hydro Engineering Technician I will continue to perform the Basic Functions of the Hydro Engineering Technician Trainee – Step II. In addition, the Hydro Engineering Technician I will prepare basic Working Drawings, Plans and Schematics for assigned projects, from detailed notes and sketches and according to specific instructions. He/she will be provided with guidance when the need arises. Finished work will be reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Incumbents will demonstrate responsibility for the upkeep, maintenance and use of the Division's Drawings and Departmental Records, File Systems, Engineering Databases and Data Files. He/She will assist with Field Work, and Surveying. The Engineering Technician I shall aid in the training of Hydro Engineering Technician Trainees, Summer Interns and Students.

Essential Function

  • Perform daily functions under the direction of the Senior Hydro Engineering Technician, other Hydro Engineering Technicians and/or a Hydro Supervisor

  • Participate in the stewardship of Hydro Project Drawings and Records

  • Participate in the support functions of the Hydro Engineering Staff and Power Production facilities

  • Participate in identifying and resolving issues that affect Hydro Support Group operation

  • Correctly utilize assigned tools and equipment and assist in keeping them clean and in good repair

  • Participate in Training junior Hydro Engineering Technicians and Summer Interns and Students

Education

  • Must be a High School Graduate or the equivalent with an emphasis on drafting and mathematics

  • Must have completed all the Education and Training of the Hydro Engineering Technician Trainee or have the equivalent training and/or experience

Experience

  • Must have one year experience as a Hydro Engineering Technician Trainee or have the equivalent training and/or experience

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a valid Driver's License

  • Must demonstrate the ability to write legibly and print neatly

  • Must demonstrate the ability to use basic electronic and manual drafting tools, and have an aptitude for drafting, mathematics, surveying and engineering work

Physical Requirements

  • Must be mentally and physically fit for duty.

  • Able to sit, stand, walk and lie down

  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs

  • Have fine manual dexterity

  • Able to operate foot controls

  • Able to bend, squat, crawl and kneel and ascend and descend stairs and ladders

  • Able to reach above shoulder level

  • Able to work at heights over 10 feet and unprotected heights of less than 10 feet

  • Able to work in confined spaces or areas of restricted movement

  • Able to work over water

  • Able to work indoors and outdoors in all climate conditions, including extreme heat and cold

  • Able to work in marked changes to temperature and humidity

  • Able to work in close proximity of rotating and high voltage equipment

  • Able to work in high noise and/or vibration areas

  • Able to differentiate colors

  • Able to speak, hear and see

  • Able to work on steep, uneven or unstable surfaces
