About the PositionThroughout the Climate Leadership Certificate and Sustainability Pathways programs, there is emphasis on peer-to-peer learning, project and community-based learning, and development of the cohort learning community. To support cohort growth, development, and engagement, two Sustainability Mentor positions are being hired to support student and cohort health, strengthen program quality, and enhance career preparedness. The following responsibilities will be shared and designated between the two mentors at the position's start.

Collectively, these positions will serve an essential community engagement and communications role in sharing Climate Leadership Certificate and Sustainability Pathways stories with the public, program partners, and local youth by developing and providing program media that communicates the goals of the programs, identifies opportunities to participate, and gathers input on program development.

These positions will also serve an essential community engagement role in coordinating weekly sustainability service field trips highlighting areas such as food systems, ecological restoration, zero waste, or fire adaptation with community partners. The mentors will facilitate AmeriCorps aspects of the program, helping students serving as AmeriCorps members with timesheets, progress reports, and completing their service.

Some responsibilities and duties will be shared by the two Sustainability Mentors, and others will be delegated based on the skills each Mentor brings. These duties will be reviewed and communicated with each Mentor.

Required Qualifications• Completed a summer practicum for the Climate Leadership Certificate or Sustainability Pathways programs, or be a WWU alumna or local resident with exceptional place-based and sustainability education experience

• Excellent communication skills (oral, written, facilitation, & presentation)

• Strong interest in developing and applying leadership skills while supporting leadership development in other students

• Highly organized and prepared to manage dynamic responsibilities

• Strong situational awareness and ability to support organizational partnerships

• Growth mindset and readiness to work independently at times and collaboratively as a team as well

Salary

$19.40 - $25.84/hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Bargaining Unit TemporaryThis position is covered by a Washington Federation of State Employees bargaining union. New employees are eligible for membership under the current collective bargaining agreement at 350 hours of employment.
